New to lungfish need advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lungfish will eat plants and the roots. i am fighting my sal on it now. bastard eats every plant i put in ther. as of right now my swords are ok. i guess that was last months special. id just go with a few sponges and some wood. sometimes the simplest tanks look the best. dont stack to much wood up it will get knocked down. also tight lid. my sal lifted 8lbs of crap on one corner, broke duct tape, lifted the plexi glass and still go 3' of air over the tank before hitting the ground. oh and it launched my magnet glass cleaner accross the room all right in front of me.

awsome pic hate to hijack the the thread but how long do they live and also how are they as far as illnesses go and parasites go? i have a spare tank laying around but i dont know much about them do they get out alot?

West African Lungfish are aggressive feeders and will even eat each others fins and limbs! They bite sponge filters. Large canisters like the FX5 by Hagen are great for lungfish! Use small substrate as the lungfish sometimes eat rocks and die! Don't keep anything except for a few species of large catfish of similar size with them. I've succeeded with this! Scaly fish usually get eaten and most cichlids pick them to death but I kept Tilapias with them before!

Scott, I orders my over flow and sponges, the over flow is mainly for heavy mech filtration. I have 2 nice pieces of wood but.
And u agree sometimes less is best.

it will do great. they are easy to raise. just keep good clean water and good food. i would even put the sponge in the sump. since your going to run one. that way you will keep the clean look to the tank and still get the bennis of all that bio media from it. i have sponges on almost every tank. they are awesome!

I always have pristine water.. in all my tanks. I think my water bill is more than my electric lol.. and scott get out of my head lol I was thinking that already....with the sponge filter idea. And with the top its solid plexy glass. And i'll be putting a wood trim around it that will also rap around the rim of the tank. I will then have tie down bolts for sacirity.. NO ESCAPES.
