:welcome: now that ur here u are gonna get into monster fish, just wait i give u a cpl of months and u will have a bigger tank and trying to get some monster fish, one that have color of corse lol

ok now what is wrong with the ARAPAIMAS GIGAS, because I am going to look up everyones fish they are pitching out and what like to know about them before I get them. As far as getting a bigger tank I am thinking of building one completely out of glass when I get the money or I may buy one if I can get one cheap enough. Also thanks for all the replys.

I fell for the ARAPAIMAS GIGAS gag. When I looked them up I seen what was wrong with them. :WHOA:
Also was woundering if I do get one male fish and 3 female would I need to buy the male in a different place just incase of inbreeding? thanks

In a 5 gal tank, I would suggest tetras or fancy guppies. One betta is also nice in a 5 gal tank with a few low maintenance plants like anubias and java ferns.

how many fancy guppies can I keep in a 5 gallon? Also what is something small that I can add to them to make it not so plain jane? What about a frog or do they make to much waste? thanks for answering all my stupid questions.

You really should get something bigger than 5 gal. After putting in a filter, heater and decorations there won't be much room in there for a fish to swim around in. I know you want to build your own tank but it's not as easy or inexpensive as it may seem. It could be cheaper buying a new tank than building it. Look into ebay, craigslist, and the sales forum in this site for anyone selling a used tank. Also if you haven't already, start reading about the nitrogen cycle.

www.glasscages.com has cheap aquariums. i wouldnt suggest building a tank unless you have a profesinal seal it. i dont think you want it to leak. and it is very hard to line up glass and get everything right. if you want to do a cement and glass tank that isnt very hard if you just do glass in the front. i dont think you could fit 4 platies in a 5 gallon after you have all the decor and everything in it.

you should even consider getting something like a 20 gallon long tank to start. its not very expensive and will allow you more choices in quality/quantity of fish. then in the future it could make a nice hospital or quarantine tank.

You should ditch the 5g tank and get a 55g tank then stock it with 3 pumpkinseed sunfish. Make sure you provide these colorful and hardy natives with tones of plants and shade. Also tell your mom to get a tank about the same size and try some African Cichlids as they do well in hard water. Welcome to MFK.
