New to small fish and need suggestions

I mean it also depends on which shrimp species you go with, but even for with your regular sakura or cherry red shrimps (which are easy to breed) they don't reproduce that quickly... and unless you are starting with a very large colony in the hundreds, maybe honestly hard to keep a stable supply of food going for your fish... If you are using them as just an occasional snack on the other hand, then could be done even with a small colony...
They do look great, but don't think they are that easy to breed and are egg layers not live bearers like guppies...
I think as most have said Guppies or Platys etc would be the best choice due to how readily and eager they are are to breed...
yea the shrimp will be more for enjoyment. Here and there I'll have baby fish that I go and buy ghost shrimp for. So I figured might as well have some.
I totally agree with Fat Homer. I love shrimp, and you could keep them with some smaller livebearers if you didn't care that shrimplets were eaten. Even if in their own tank with no one to eat shrimplets it would be hard to get a big enough group going to make it a sustainable food source. Use the fish for food, use the shrimp for fun and maybe an occasional snack.

Yea that's the plan. I was going to get around 40 regular red cherries ended up going with less but have higher quality. I got a breeder pack of Sakura fire red. Comes with 10 females and 5 males.
