It will take years, but a black aro will hit 3 feet. A 300 is a good footprint for one, but bigger is always better (thats what you tell the wife, too). :)

I think a 150 is only a 4 foot tank, so not enough room for an aro to swim. A 125 is 6 feet, but is only 18 inches front to back, so not enough turning room.
I believe most 150s are also 6'. Mine is at least. They are also only 18" deep though. Even though arowana are flexible, 18" isn't a lot of room for a 30-36" fish to turn

I don't have a 150, but the only ones around here I've seen for sale were 4x2x2.5 (I think). Could be wrong, though.

Those dimensions are around 220 gallons.

Most 150s I've seen (including mine) are 72"X18"X28"

I agree with every one here that the bigger the better, especially for an aro... i know it may take a few years, but considering their growth rate its probably a good idea to get a larger tank ready now then to wait till it starts getting too big, not to mention you can guarantee there is no chance of stunting the fish...

Lastly, nothing worst than trying to move a large powerful fish from one tank to another, also you have to consider a lot of things can happen in life and you never know if you will run into problems getting a 300G tank later down the line...

Either way, welcome to MFK and best of luck with your new obsession...

Only one problem, he thinks a 150g will house an arowana for life. Will someone please talk some sense into him?

Well he is willing to learn. He just does not know the proper size tank for his blackie.

I am no expert but I would invest in at least the standard monster tank 6x2x2 for No smaller.

Just wanted to say Welcome.

Well he did mention his aro is small atm, around 6-7" which means he still has a little bit of time to upgrade, and i give him credit for at least taking the time to come in here to ask questions and listen to peoples advice...

But yeah, to the OP your aro eventually will need a pretty large tank and without trying to sound rude, if you have no intent on getting a fairly large tank then it maybe a good idea to sell the aro while its small and get some other slightly smaller fish which could live happily in the tanks you have now without the need of an upgrade...
