Plodding along with this thing. I've had it filled and emptied 3 times now. Everything runs beautifully but my plumbing keeps springing leaks in the most pita places. I would love for someone to explain to me how in the hell this bulkhead is leaking from around the wood...

Dude I hate those random leaks, I feel your pain! I would think a leak there is impossible unless there is a pinhole in the bulkhead threads (unlikely) or if water is leaking from either end of the bulkhead and wicking/capillary-action through the threads to the wood.

Yeah im still stumped. Gonna take it all apart this afternoon. I'm thinking it might have to do with the bulkhead spanning a thicker wall (1-3/4") than usual but really don't know why that would be. Meh. The struggle is real.

I had a similar problem once, turned out the hole was drilled through the wood at a very slight angle rather than at 90-degrees. Tightening the bulkhead pieces together, I think I got a little ham-fisted and over did it, cracking the inner piece...might also have been cracked beforehand, don't know for sure. I eventually gave up and just ran a straight piece of pipe through the hole; didn't notice the crack until weeks later while playing around with that bulkhead. The crack was not complete, so became visible only when the piece was "flexed" a certain way.

I always enjoy seeing your builds, Backfromthedead Backfromthedead , always nice work.

Leaks aside (good luck fixing them, I know firsthand how bad they are!), I see this is the tank you wanted the big single species group of loaches.
If you end up going with the kuhli loach suggestion I made on another thread, around 70-80 could fit in here with that big footprint.

Thanks man. Yeah it has crossed my mind that I may have cracked the bulkheads(every one on the board is leaking the same way) is leaking but having done that before im usually careful not to overtighten.

Removing the bulkheads and replacing with straight pipe like you say is likely.

Yeah, you know the drill, just gonna be more time before I can shop for fish.
