New Whiptail

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No it wouldn't! I'd pay top dollar for for a big expensive HC book on nothing but whiptails!

I too would get a book about whiptail to start learning more about the variation in them. So many of them that aren't even known of in the hobby.

with most looking so similar, and them not being really popular, not many people are into collecting different whipptails, theres just no market for them

You're right about them not being very popular. I don't understand why. They are one of the only armored cats that don't hide most of the time. They are also affordable (usually), eat anything, easy to keep, and look cool as *&%#, atleast to me. I would venture to say they could even be called oddballs.

The market for them in my area has begun to pick up quite a bit. I see them now regularly in most pet shops.

I have only held one of mine for about 2 seconds while transfering him into a small plastic box (did that to get a close look with my jewelers goggles). Didn't have him in my hand long enough to realize fiesty-ness but I'm glad you said that as a heads up for any future handling. Maybe we could collectively invent the worlds first whiptail straight jacket hehehe

haha that would be fun. I love handling my plecos. I have seen no ill effects, and they are more likely to come out to greet you when you do handle them regularly.

i just make a point of being there when i put food in etc. if they can associate you with food, then they'll come out. my whiptails always out, and doesnt mind my presence at all
