Newbie Nano Planted help!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
for HC ull really need pressurized co2, good dosing and strong light. add 60w to a nano without co2 and enjoy green water for a day and algea forever after that. i think u were on the right path, before i derailed about HC. really stick to 2 of the lights u started with a d diy co2 and theres a lot of easy species that will thrive. many are water column feeders that would benefit from being attached to driftwood like anubias and ferns.

Lol alright ill go with your recommendations and will make a new thread about the tank!! Keep an eye out!

That's fine but you won't enjoy it much unless your home all day. I like 9-8:30 with an hour and a half 'Ciesta' period to reduce algae. I only recently started the 'Ciesta' period and have noticed a difference.

A timer will become your best friend, highly recommended. The plants will do better with consistency.

Since this is a nano tank, have you thought about what to stock it with? If not, i would recommend some of the easier dwarf shrimp such as Cherry Red shrimp and ammano shrimp :)

Yea, not too much you can throw in a 2.5g for life, shrimp, a betta, a killifish pair, maybe a few microrasboras. Shrimp would be the nicest IMO.

Also a quick question what if I put the 60w bulb on and it was a few inches above the tank would that be fine beacause I would want some green algae on the wall and I could get like Amano shrimp to take it of the plants? Yes, no?
