Newbie Nano Planted help!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on the Kelvin rating and the height of the lighting above the tank, im guessing the Anubias and Java Fern maybe okay under those lights... Since both are pretty much low light plants.

The amazon sword im not as sure about although its also a low light plant, im not sure if those two bulbs will have enough light for them?

But again, being that it is a nano tank, it may work?

The kelvin is 29k each and ill just go with some anubias and java fern and java moss and see how it goes then if I get the hang of it ill invest in a bigger tank.

The Kelvin rating isnt quite right for plant growth, since you realistically want something in the 6700K to max 10,000K

Wrong type of bulbs, guarantee those are way off the spectrum that plants grow at. Your better off with two of the original bulbs... Or actually paying money for something that's made for the task. Imagine that.

Yeah I know there not the right bulbs but I'm just a kid and no one else in my family are into fish they could care less to what I'm doing they have never gotten me anything for all my aquariums and I asked if they can get me a right bulb but they just yelled at me and left so I though I was all set with the 60w bulb but I found out you can only use CFL bulbs and the 60w was halogen so yeah I'm thinking of just throwing away all my fish stuff and start over in my 20s, sorry for frustrating you.

Not frustrating me, just some things you can't cut corners and be successful. I work at an lfs, 9/10 customers try to cut corners to save a few dollars which usually costs them their fish, or more money down the road. Seen it too many times and only been at it just under a year.

I wasn't trying to cut corners it's just that I can get my hands on proper bulbs I used to cut corners but I learnt from the mistakes and from then on all my tanks have had everything recommended on them it's just now I'm short on cash and my parents can spent $20 on me

Maybe just hold off setting up the plants till you can get the right bulbs? I mean fish dont really care what type of light you use, so you could always add plants later on?

Or as a temporary solution, use a few fake plants till you can use real ones ;)

Try and aim for around 6700K - 8000K bulbs that will work with your lighting is the best i can tell you...

10,000K works as well, but the problem is you will likely have a lot of algae to deal with...
