Northfin food

Interesting, so if not EQ, what exactly is the Antarctic krill meal being preserved with? This shouldn't be top secret with a pet food manufacturer, or rep. Is the UK rep testing future batches, or relying on the manufacturer to test here in Canada? After the recent situation I suspect that there will probably be future batches tested in the USA. :)

So the current lab score is now 2 to 1. lol

I get the feeling they got caught out and trying to rectify quickly,

If that's true, hopefully they will clean up their act. There are only so many suppliers of SA krill meal, and none of them are based in Canada, which means it has to be shipped, so unless something has recently changed that also means it has to have a min of preservative added during production, and prior to transport.

A LOT of people on online blogs etc talk about products such as Naturox etc, yet the reality is most of the large suppliers in the free world do not use these substances, as EQ has a very long track record in safety, and efficacy when used in fish meal, krill meal, shrimp meal, etc. And it is a LOT cheaper. So "safer" preservatives equate to overall higher production costs. Some companies may be able to absorb those costs, some perhaps not. The types of preservatives used in animal feed may be changing soon due to the views held by many in the EU market. The winds are definitely changing.

The ironic part is that to the best of my knowledge none of these other so called safer substances have been tested long term on tropical fish, either. Sometimes what may seem safe, turns out to be the opposite, and vice versa. I am old enough to have seen this many times in my life - eggs are bad, no they are good, chocolate is bad, chocolate in moderation is good, coffee bad, coffee in moderation good, butter bad, butter good, same with red wine, and numerous other substances.

There is an old saying among nutritionists; the difference between a nutrient, a drug, and a toxin, is typically the dosage.

I'm convinced tilapia, shrimp and silversides are the best for fish food :)

This discussion isn't about what diet is best for a fish. There are many fish found on this planet that would die if only fed what you just suggested, Mike, both freshwater species, and saltwater.
