Notre Dame Is Burning!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Twin towers had design flaws ? It withstood an explosions in the lower levels. I doubt many buildings would survive a passenger jet.

I dont know of anyone from NY saying they didnt want the towers rebuilt. Only they didnt want the monstrosity
Noone was lining up to lease them, either.
bell towers, which are the oldest part are fine, worth rebuilding the cath, which was built in the 1900s, reading this thread feel like I waked into a conspiracy theory board site.
What part was built in the 1900s? Yes, the towers are the oldest part, but the rest was plenty significant., and old. The outer layer of the facade was refurbished, with some stones replaced in the 80s and 90s, but everything was at least 200-300 yrs. old, with the nave being original, dating to the 1180s.

Noone wants the Twin Towers, and noone wants some shoddy replica of Notre Dame. I get the defiance thing, but why pour money into something noone wants? Build something new, better in any way you can.

Not only is this ignorant, it sounds like you would sympathize with someone who would commit arson, "for something better." Would you feel the same way if it were a historic Synagogue?

Why would you say that pops???

You misunderstood. If it had been the Louvre that burned down, would you hire people to repaint all the paintings? What is lost cannot be recovered; there are times when you must start fresh. Notre Dame was 800+ yrs. of people pouring their time, hearts, skills and money into the same edifice. Most of those people and many of those skills are not just dead, they are fogotten as well. You can't just remake that with $1b and 5yrs. What you can do is start something new that hopefully will last long enough to become significant in the way the old one was.

I would say the same about any comparable loss.

the lower portion is intact, a mess yes but intact, the stain glass, all that, no reason not to rebuild it. And no, there is no timber left of the size needed to rebuild as it was, just no trees left that big in the amount. and I do need to retract my time line. I was off by 700 years, sorry for the cath itself not the towers.

and I am under the opinion hot work caused the fire. whether that was welding, cutting or grinding, SOP is to have a 12 hour fire watch on all hot work done, this appears to not have happened, it is well known that the timber was old and rotting do to neglect and started on the roof of the cath. where these timbers are. 2 fire alarms went off, the first was investigated and found nothing, second 22 min later and at same time the fire had taken off, to late to do anything about it at that point.

I am not buying into started by nefarious folks. I am going with bad reconstruction management and lack of proper safety and procedures.

.
No one wanted to lease it because of the inflated prices of rent..... which was because of the ballooning cost to create the monstrosity. Along with the corruption that took place. Sheldon Silver had his hands all over that project

pops pops , you are probably right. Occam's Razor is a beautiful thing.
J jaws7777 , I didn't know the prices where more absurd then Downtown Manhattan usually is. I thought people just didn't want it. You can always have faith in Government inflating budgets.

Nobody is asking you to buy anything pops. All we're saying is there is a pattern, and it is highly suspicious imo to declare a still burning fire an accident. You know the the agenda they're pushing. You have your head in the sand again pops.
