Odoe or Vittatus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for derailing your thread Lorenzo, but I would happily get in on this "brycon for Odoe" switch action. I've been thinking about a brycon for a while now, not to step on any toes Krich.

Back on point, I think you're going to enjoy the VATF more than the Odoe. Pics when you pick him up!

No problem lol brycons are cool. And ok I'll make sure to post pics:)

DB, I'll give you an odoe for that big headed golden 'Brycon' you have :p ;)

It's okay taboo..I'm a little far and I doubt DB and I are up to the hassle of shipping fish back and forth.I will have one some day....part of the fun is the search...Thanks for the consideration though.

It'll top out at about 20" and will take a very long time to get there, about ten years. The biggest vittatus I've seen was 26" and 18 years old.

10 yrs to reach 20"? Are you sure about that Chicxulub? I only had my vatf for 3-4 months but it went from a couple inches to 7-8" in that amount of time. They seem to grow similar to most fish 1-1.5" per month.

It'll slow down dramatically at sexual maturity between 12 and 15 inches.

You also have extremely good, practically unlrecidented growth at 1.5 inches a month. That's faster than even gatf normally grow under ideal conditions.

I just ordered an odoe bc I really want something that will stay smaller. I have no experience with odoes. Do you know normal growth rate and normal max?

One of the quickest growing fish I've ever had....... Slow down a bunch around 10" and anything over a real foot is doing pretty good as far as max size. I've found they do best in groups.

Thanks db. The vender only had two and I wanted either a group or one so I went with one. Perhaps I'll add more if I really like him.

I know originally I said either of these guys but could both be kept in the same tank? I read somewhere ATF's predate on Odoe's is that true?

ATF and Odoes are a terrible mixture. In nature, an adult ATF will predate on odoes, and as a result of this odoes are extremely aggressive toward young ATF.
