Odoe or Vittatus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We all saw the Armatus on the TV eating a smaller Armatus...... Anything is prey to crazy toothy fishies :irked:

IF there's Tigers out there that max out at 18" and Odoe only a few inches smaller I don't see why it couldn't work once they're grown out to offset the different growth rates. ;)

That would be a sight......

Has anyone actually tried it?

There's been a few guys on here who have kept them before, it's always resulted in the odoe killing the ATF.

In theory forskahlii would be a match size wise, but I wouldn't use my money to test this theory LOL

How many Odoe? Where any of these ATF killers the same Odoe that go all bazerk on thier tank mates??? :)

I'd love to know more about the circumstances surrounding these attempts. Maybe I shouldn't test this theory either..... lol

Is growth rate known for these FATF?

Fatf are slow even for tigers, half an inch a month would be a fair estimation. I don't know if they were the same ones that spaz, but it wouldn't surprise me. I know a shoal of odoes is much calmer and more stable, but I'd still be leery about mixing these natural enemies.

I can't help but think that having a calm group (Odoe) in with a group that may not be calm (Fatf) couldn't do anything but help the situation. People report singly kept Odoe to be spazzes yet every group I've kept has been calm. Maybe they could make the Tigers feel more comfy, less flighty? Fear dwindles with numbers right?

IF Fatf could be good dithers for a Gatf, yet multiple species of ATF being kept together is usually frowned upon long term, then couldn't ATF live amongst these natural enemies/prey items- the Odoe?

Kind of hard to talk "norms" to a guy who's Dorado/Brycon/Aimara community was ravaged by a Clown Knife...... :banhim:

If the odoes don't attack the tigers, I see no issues with it working.

I personally have no issues whatsoever with mixing multiple species of ATF. Interspecific aggression is always a concern, but that's part and parcel with keeping tigers. Squabbling is what they do. lol

As for living with odoes, I'm worried it wouldn't work because of the odoes, not the ATF. I don't see any issue with the tigers, the pikes are the ones who have me leery.

I know what you mean lol

I get all sorts of weird looks for mixing a black aro with a black GATF, I can't imagine the stuff you get lol

That's the same principle that people use when keeping African cichlids. Pack them in and it disperses the aggression. Now when that dorado puts on a little more size things may change. That video was from 2011. It would be interesting to see an update of how things worked out longterm. That being said, that guy has some sweet fish.

hey all, just a bit about my odoe... he's living in my 300 in a community setting with mainly cichlids. he is as good as gold never skittish and just cruises around like a shark. until something repeatedly attacks him, first instance of this was last year when my giant snakehead of 11inches (who he grew up with from 4inches!) repeatedly stole food from his mouth and pushed him around nipping his fins... he flipped and nearly killed the micro, bearing in mind the pike was only 9 inch then thats no easy task, looked like he'd been at him with a razor slashing at him (theres a thread on here showing the damage!), i rehomed the snakehead as he was gonna get killed and outgrow my tank anyway.
this brings me to why im here today, i got a young 6inch jag cichlid a week or so ago and he's been bothering the pike who to be fair has been less than interested in the pike who's now 11inch. today however i picked up a 12 inch golden cobra snakehead... the pike instantly hates him and they've had a massive splashing fight resulting in the snakehead in hiding and a few scales off the pike, just as this happened the jag decided to have another pop, he now has a big gash just where fish side fin joins and a gash down his face....

imo odoes are badass mofo's but only when provoked... mine has recently tolerated 2 inch festae's living with him, bite size! he does eat feeders occassionally tho, think he see's cichlids as friends... except the jag!-)
