So while my 325g tank is finishing cycling I decided I’d start purchasing my grow outs and keep them in my 55g acrylic quarantine tank (that my fiancé decorated so colorfully). The first guy showed up today, a 7” Spider Kelberi but I had a couple questions about his current health as it’s been a few years since I’ve kept them.

Before asking: all Params are good, water is 7.4ph, 0 nitrites and ammonia and <0.5 nitrates.

1. He has a few holes in his head, is this HITH? Is there anything I should do to help these?

2. The bass of his fins are bright red even on his pelvic and top fin. I’d this anything to be worried about?

3. There is a thin white membrane on the edge of his gills, kind of like baby teugelsi bichirs get when developing theirs, tho not as extreme as the bichirs. Is this normal?

4. I noticed after looking in the tank there were a few tag alongs in the substrate but I couldn’t get a picture. They looked like mini pill bugs though not as thick. Kind of brown in color with lots of little legs similar to dairy shrimp when swimming. Are these just a possible byproduct of the fish store who shipped me him feeding scuds? Or are these an actual parasite that needs to be dealt with?

Update: I found one of the isopod like creatures. Anyone know what this is? Still haven’t seen one on the fish but this one was near by

Sadly I don’t know what those are, but I do have them in one of my tanks, and they are breeding, I did used to use them to feed to my betta fish. But I would also like to know what those are.

Well after some research he definitely has fin rot and HITH so I’m pissed with the seller I paid $150 for a fish that’s got loads of health issues. Luckily he’s hanging in there okay so I should be able to get him up to speed

Well after some research it looks like the random thing in my tank is an Amphipod? If so its harmless, kinda a farmed crustacean for fish food like grass shrimp Fishnerd360 Fishnerd360

That’s a scud. They aren’t necessarily a bad thing. They will scavenge and reproduce if left in the tank. I had them for a while in my shrimp tank as a hitchhiker on some plants. They make a nice snack for fish.
