Dang, I may soon be living in an hoa neighborhood for the first time....

I want a desert theme front yard landscape so I hope it won't be an issue
 
Yes, I like the drought resistant plants, dry creeks and boulders look but mainly the low maintenance.
Look into yucca plants,they should suit you just fine and there should be an excellent selection of them in your area.

I'll remember that. And yea socal has loads of variety for that kind of landscaping

I have like 4 beautiful boulders in my front yard. Two of them have like 5 different colors. Boulders are pretty awesome lol

I really like them and I have a few different types around my yards.This is not the best climate zone for them but they do well here as quite a few people grow them on their property.
Here are a few of mine.
my gavorites are the ones that grow like a tree.This one is nearly five feet tall.

Oh ok, I had one of those in the back. I cut it down a couple of time because it was close to my kids'playground. It grew back 4 ft before my brother told me he'd take it and he dug it up and took it. Those things are hardy af
