Some will always choose to look through a lens of fear and judgement. They're not viscous cranky predators, nor are they harmless stuffed teddys to play with. I don't expect my 2 year old lab mix to babysit my 5 year old kid who's half the dog's size, but they do play together with me around and run and wrestle and have fun. Both learn what is ok and what is not ok with each other. And my 5 year old already knows not to approach a dog he doesn't know without stopping several feet away and asking the owner first, then proceeding slowly and respectfully to the dogs side and letting it sniff his closed hand before petting it. But by this point I'm either preaching to the choir or talking to a brick wall, not converting anyone today...

I shot sealant on the bottom seams of my project car. I got most of it done, and soon I’ll have the last bits of frame painted.

It needs a steering stop and some fuel tank mounts, bleed brakes, fix a flat tire, and make carpet templates, before I put the body back on.

I’m hoping to have it basically mounted by Halloween, but engine and trans must go back before the rear body.

Hello; Interesting article. I read it to see if there are good tactics listed. The bit about "hoping" the dog will be satisfied with your shoe gave me pause. Been told about the do not stare at the dog before.
I agree with the part about the dog knowing you from before won't matter. Had that happen in the last few weeks. My neighbor's mom came to visit and brought her dog. I met with the dog, and it seemed friendly. A few days later I walked up to the fence to visit what i thought was the daughters dog. They look the same. The mom's dog started growling and laid the ears back. Not a problem as I put up a fence some years ago. I also was just getting home from shopping so had protection with me. I started keeping some protection handy while the mom was visiting. Even when mowing.

What I take from the article is mostly how a situation plays out is up to the dog. I will keep them in mind along with the other things I have used in the past for times if I face a mean dog and do not have protection. Hopefully some on thread can come up with better ideas.

Hello; Interesting thought. I have owned dogs. One of the favorites was a husky. I worked (trained) with him a lot. He was obedient. Even so I would not have left him with a small child. The husky never gave cause around kids but even so i watched him like a hawk.
I was a runner & as i got older a bicycle rider. Had a lot of incidents with dogs. So yeah, I am judgmental. Had to be. Benjamin in snow.jpg
