Voyager 1 will reach one light-day from Earth in 2026. Here’s what that means

Hello; I do recall back in 1977 when Voyager 1 was launched. Months later started sending back flyby pictures of planets and moons. Took years to leave the solar system. Forty-nine years later, in 2026, it has traveled the distance that light can make in one 24 hour day.

This is why we are stuck in a small solar system with the tech we currently have. Also why sci-fi stories have to invent impossible things such as warp drive and cryo sleep. My favorite is the stasis field.

Interesting trivia to be sure.

Yeah, people coming to my house always carry bug spray. Just in case they see a spider.

The problem is, that is my spider on my porch.

They have no right to poison me or it.

Anyhow, I don’t trust modern people to cook for me. There’s too much irrational random hate for old white guys.

Hell, I don’t even trust them to fix my car, and no other human puts a wrench on my bikes.

My feeling about doctors isn’t any better.

Hello; I replaced the struts on my 2001 Sentra SE a few years ago. Did it the hard way by reusing the springs…..
The springs were sagging on one side of the car.

They put the driver, battery and fuel tank all on one side. On the other side is the muffler. This happens to every Toyota I work on after 100k miles.

Hello; Lessons from the episode. I have a friend who likes to visit antique stores. I tag along. Do not know if it is an antique store thing but some of them have what look like homemade cookies offered. He will grab one. I will not. Too many unknowns about how people handle the food, the ingredients and cooking practices.
I was a public school teacher. I had a small coffee maker which I used to only heat water. I used the Folger sealed individual brew packs similar to tea bags. Always rinsed the decanter a couple times before use with plain water. Once I had the cup of coffee made, I kept it close. If I had sat it down and lost sight for even briefly with students around the rest was dumped. I do not go to bars anymore but same applies to drinks.

I also wrench on my vehicles. I avoid shops as much as is possible. I cannot mount tires on wheels. When i get home from getting new tires I loosen the lug nuts and retorque them with a torque wrench. Last few decades I use the sort which can be set to a torque and click. Tried a digital adapter on my regular ratchet but went back to the mechanical sort.

Hello; Next time you go to a doctors office and are sitting around in the waiting room crowd, do this. Say your appointment is for 2:30 PM. Ask out loud who has an appointment for 2:30. Have done such a few times. So far always a few of us have the same appointment time.

A good friend was a dentist. We traveled together often. He had to attend training classes in order to keep his license valid. Teachers had to do the same. So many hours every year. A difference for a dentist was he could attend seminars which taught how to maximize office profits and was not restricted to staying up to date learning updated best medical practice. Pretty sure doctors have such. One doc I see often so she can spray liquid nitrogen on my damaged skin has promotional videos playing in the exam rooms.

Of course public school teachers cannot charge so the "in service" classes I had to attend were a different sort. I tried to pick good science sessions but often enough it was some "expert" pushing some "new think" sort of garbage. You may already know the sort of stuff which results in a child attending 12 years of school and still being illiterate when they graduate.

"It went too far": Armed homeowner arrested after shooting teen "porch pirates"

Hello; This is a case of porch pirates getting what they deserve in my opinion. Seems two thieves were caught by a homeowner stealing his property from his home in Atlanta GA. The homeowner shot the two thieves wounding them.
The linked article presents different points of view so likley one you favor is included. Some say since the thieves are teens that is a factor. Some say packages can be replaced and so on.

That they are teens is interesting but not important. I am sure from seeing videos of such theft that lots of porch thieves are adult. I sort of get the point of packages can be replaced but do not give credence to the idea. My home & property is where I live. I have to be here. my home & property is my sanctuary. I hope to defend my place no matter what it takes. I may give someone my stuff or my money but i will not tolerate someone taking anything from me.
I read about in some states a thief can steal up to $900 or so before being charged. That is so wrong. It is not about the value of what is taken. It is that someone is trying to take from us, not what the stuff is worth.

Not the last thought to be sure but a final one for now. I am sure there are plenty of thieves in my area. If it becomes known there is no consequence for coming on my place and taking small stuff, soon enough they will want even more. That the homeowner is in jail is not justice. Not in my view. I do not know if the homeowner lived alone, but if he does wanna wager on if his place is robbed. maybe by the same thieves?

I no longer put the TV on in the morning or pick up a newspaper on the way to work to keep abreast of current world affairs. I just log in to MFK and S skjl47 has it all under control.

Rupert Murdoch's going to be *****ing himself!!

Keep up the good work Jeff😀

I agree Jeff.

If I was a would be thief and fancied my chances robbing households the last place on earth I'd be doing it is in a country where it is legal to own a firearm, and use it, if you feel threatened. If someone tries robbing you in your own home then that pretty much falls under that category.

The thieves were fools, deserved exactly what they got, and the homeowner shouldn't be dealt with too harshly.

Because I live in California you might think from all the bad publicity that it is a horrible place to live now. That’s all too true in most urban localities.

But, California is a huge state with a great deal of wilderness area, and little towns along the edges of that wilderness that are all quite nice.

The most exciting thing that’s happened here in the last 23 years is some far neighbors shot off some illegal fireworks and got the cops called out.

Otherwise it was maybe my dog barking because somebody was walking around in the middle of the night looking for their lost dog.

I’ve lived in cities, and I’ve lived in the country, and I lived in the suburbs, and I’ve lived on a number of military bases.

I can’t remember living in a single place where there were riots or unrest or frequent crime. Incredible luck, really.
