I see Amazon and Ebay similarly as those are eating a big chunk out of retail stores.I guess I am part of that problem as I do most of my shopping on Ebay.

An alarmingly low amount of youngsters around now. I am very into the hobby with 100 gallons of tank and 100% of budget going to fishkeeping, but how many are there?
There's probably only a handful of us here, most people in my school are more interested in sports, hopeless pursuit of the other gender and rap music....

Im not an old timer member wise, but this is the best I've seen around when I started keeping fish again...like it or not you're all I've got MFK!

A lot of older members have moved on in life. Tanks and fish aren't on the priority list especially with families/home/bills. So that plays a role why a lot of older memebers aren't around or not posting.
Still some left that post.
Negative replies in threads I think really deter members or potential members. I think members need to speak the truth but it can be done properly. I'm aware of the forum being public and not wanting to be p.c. but it's at the cost of forum. This is my belief.
Gotta change with the forum/members as time progresses. Otherwise the forum won't be around. This hobby is rewarding and wouldn't be the same w/o MFK.

Bingo. I noticed a mass exodus at that time as well. People that needed a fish fix were forced to find it elsewhere, and MFK has never been the same since.
Many good points have been raised as to the "why", but I really believe that the server issues caused a lot of members to move on to I guess what they perceived to be better. Lets face it, on sites such as FB & YouTube where no real vetting from ones peers takes place, everyone can be an overnight expert. I'm sure that a lot of people *like* that too.

I'm not a long time member but I made the hobby more personal for myself and I haven't really shared anything that I have going for a long time. One of these days I'll come back. May even make a new thread here soon. I don't post much on threads because as the kid stated they all have to relate with how many fish or what type of fish should I put in my 125.
