don't you have anything better to do?

I understand your frustrations of not being able to get the fish you are looking for. You should try keeping Crenicichla. You become a master of the art of patiently waiting. But four pages? Really?

I'll tell you what I was told by a very wise person on these forums.

when you are getting into rare and hard to find fish. You need to do a few things

Get the aquarium ready that they will go in.

Get the money around that you are willing to spend plus the shipping money.

Get the word out the the vendors that you have cash on hand and what you want.

and WAIT.

Exactly
Good things come to those who wait. Patience really is a virtue.

UPDATE: Aquascape has answered the call and they will check with their suppliers to see if they can have some in.

If they can, who ELSE would want some other than me and ry?
Pedro to the rescue.I might get some and try to get them to breed, that way we wont have this problem again.

if they were commonly available they wouldnt be rare.

true. i guess in a demand/supply ratio they are rare. but most websites i go to has them on the price listings along with the common status of "out of stock".

so they are "commonly" unavailable. its one thing to say they have never heard of such fish or ever sold it. but it hurts more to know they have always had it listed without presence.

like buger king... home of the whopper... whopper out of stock at 99/100 locations year round. but its on the menu!

yah especially true here. pike-alikes are illegal here.

Speaking of oddballs, after years of repeated ordering my LFS finally got me some peppermint pikeheads (Luciocephalus aura). They came in in crappy condition, covered in ich, but after a week and a half of nursing, they're ich free and I brought one home today to test in my new planted tank. If it does good for the next week, I'm buying more:nilly:

Im not sure he meant the website itself but the hobby of monsterfish keeping. Thats how I took it at least.

I feel your pain though. I hate when I'm browsing planetcatfish and find a cat that would be the perfect size for my tank and looks really good to boot, but no one has them. I'd love it if all the fish I wanted were farm bred so I could pick them up anywhere. On the other hand to continue the car analogy, I get a lot of looks in my Regal T type because you rarely ever see them. People comment and offer to buy it several times a week. Thats a nice ego boost I wouldn't get driving a vette that while nice people see every day.

that is what i meant. but unlike cars, mini monsters - i believe - are a NECESSITY and rarity of these would-be great alternatives are a shame. if fish like charax gibbosus played a MUCH bigger roll in every LFS, it would deal a big hammerblow against oversize fish keeping. but we need to first admit this problem ONLY happens with us; once new fishkeepers who want to buy "monster" fish for our 20 gallon tanks in the first place and the stores only have pacu, knives, and oscars. And you don't need me to tell you the amount of people who want kickass fish of this nature spands 100X over the population on MFK. even more if you count the one-time buyers who end up killing their pets and loosing interest.

Once you put living organisms into the equation, it is at this point that i CANNOT agree with all of you saying "so what, leave it rare because it makes us feel better to have these fish" when the availability of that fish (and many others) can fulfill a nitch while preventing mortal mistakes. And you treat them like baseball cards and WANT to hoard them away for nobody else's needs but your own?
