Oscar help... possible tumor, lump? Don't know.. help!

Call around and check out the cost of an x-ray for him. Tumors are usually fairly simple for them to remove, and diagnosis is as simple as an x-ray. I was thinking, if it were a blockage...1)The fish wouldn't be passing stool as easy as it is. 2)With blockages, gasses normally build up, and cause equilibrium/buoyancy issues in fish...Which yours isn't really showing issues with. An x-ray would also rule out any stones in the intestines.

You would have to have a vet look at it, if you can find one that has experience with fish. Some do, some don't.

Anyone can, but not everyone is willing to x-ray a fish. :)

Some good points though, Christine.

The question here is, that if it is a stone in his intestine, why is he still passing stool yet looking so bloated?

Im coming back to thinking that this may infact be a bloat/hex issue. I went into the Big Al's down here yesterday and asked around a few of the more knowledgable employees... they also thought either constipation or bloat. They were out of Marcyn for freshwater, but I picked up some general cure with metro, which cures for abdominal swelling.

I've also rasied his water temperature to 85, and added a 950 current circulator, to further assist the breathing process.. I am thinking of trying to treat with the metro today after a water change.

The funny thing is, the oscars general mood seems to have taken a turn for the better, he is swimming around the tank a little more, and generally looking less misserable. However, his bloat still seems to remain. Hard to say still if it has gotten any better since I started treating with epsom salt 10 days ago. I think medication might start being the way to go...

i really doubt metro will help, i would either wait for the maracyn to come in or treat with tetracycline, my petsmart always has tetracycline in stock...

what Sarah said ^

Also, it's possible that a stone could be causing a partial blockage, allowing soft waste to pass, yet still causing an internal infection & abdominal swelling. Impossible to say with any real certainty what's going on, but if it was hex/bloat issue your fish would not be eating anything, and most likely would have been dead days ago. That, and if it was hex/spironucleus causing this, the epsom salt in the food would have already knocked those protozoa back to 0. IMO treating with metronidazole will do nothing.

well if the two of you are right then I will NOT repeat the 2nd treatment 48 hours later and try to find some Marcyne One and/or tetracycline in the mean time. As of so far today with 12 hours of metro in the tank it definitely hasn't change anything. He spit out some pellets earlier, but then took some of a different brand, so he is just being a picky ocar. I still have epsom in the water, and am keeping my fingers crossed....

No apparent reduction in swelling as of current.... the metro treatment, as you both guessed, probably isnt helping. The package says to repeat the dose after the first 48 hours, but now I am wondering if I should just go ahead and treat with tetracyclin or marcyn-1 instead, after a large water change of course..
