Oscars for the 125

Just picked up these 3 oscars the other day . Two red oscars and 1 tiger, growing them up together and then keeping the two reds for my 125 g setup and getting rid of the tiger. There currently in a 20 gallon long for quarantine and most likely grow them up in this tank for a while till there about 4 inches or big enough to go in my 125. The quarantine tank is filtered by two sponge filters and a hang on back. Will be posting more of these guys as they grow!

Why did you get the tiger if you just plan on rehoming it?

They are big enough for for the 125 now. Grow the two reds out there, no need to wait apart from the quarantine. Is that because you have other fish in the 125?

I have 5 large thin bar silver dollars in my 125 as well as a 16 inch pleco and didn’t want them to be stressed because of the other fish being so much larger and have to compete for food with the other fish, all together I have 14 silver dollars that’s a lot for these guys to compete with at this size, there only an inch right now

Why did you get the tiger if you just plan on rehoming it?

Since the fish currently in my 125 are much larger than these guys and very aggressive when it comes to feeding, when I add them to the 125 with the other fish these 3 oscars won’t seem as intimidated to compete for food and such with my other fish. Being 3 and being able to hang together and hold there own against the other fish they might feel more comfortable in my 125 as they grow up to a larger size. This was my thought process for getting 3 and choosing to get rid of the tiger at some point down the road.

nothin wrong with growing them out in a smaller tank imo, the 125 will be very heavily stocked with all those fish as adults though. Be prepared for many water changes! Nice looking little O's you've got.

Thanks! and yah I'll be rehoming all of my silver dollars except for the 5 thin bar and the tiger stripe to cut down on the bio load. Also will be adding another large canister filter to my system.

Throw some gravel, driftwood and live plants in there and you will have a tank like mine!! Just need some geos. If you want to go crazy add some pbass (but you would have to get another larger tank like I ended up doing). You will get a kick out of the oscars. Watching them grow up. Definitely should aquascape.

If it's not too late add another oscar. 4 and up helps divide out aggression. I have 2 reds and 2 tigers. AZ Gardens recommended this when I set up my tank and I'm glad I listened.

In a 125 with silver dollars? Sounds like a recipe for disaster and hith with a little claustrophobia thrown in.
