Alright, you got me on the posting(even though if I didn't post the only difference would be my laptop and router...the other stuff will stay running), and I guess when you look at it, over filtration doesn't exist. Since it's the bacteria that are actually doing the work, you can't grow more than you can feed.

I'll call it over spending instead.
See .. now your getting it :D

I am by no means a model in energy consumption but I have taken some steps to lessen my impact.

As we all should ... however there are far better ways to do so than debating it for filtration which I think most of use agree is the least of our worries for the cost of our tanks... Heating is the Killer for alot of us...

Why not take the money you are about to spend to over filter and give it the one of the children's hunger funds. Giving to these charities is as easy as ordering an unnecessary filter online.

The same reason we all do selfish things we want to with our money. I don't think the thread is about finding something better to do with your money in terms of humanity. Why didn't you give the money you spent on your internet connection to charity? Because you wanted the internet connection.

The OP is "Over filtration is a good thing". I am debating the meaning of "good" in this context. If over filtration is not needed, in so much as the fish will thrive just as well without it, then there is no "good" reason to spend the money and consume more energy.

As the guys from That 70's Show would say ..." Ahhhh.... Buuuuuurn"

This has really turned into a deep thread about humanity... when we are all here for our fish ... Just goes to show ... everyone has an opinion and lucky for us we are all entitled to them :D

So I guess simply put ... your vote is "No" ...

I do get it now:) All of that extra bio-media and flow is a waste because it's not doing anything lol.

Heat the space, not the tank. Saves on heater usage, or................
Buy more cotton to cover up with. Saves the furnace usage to heat the space when you turn that off also(never mind the fish, trade 'em out for coldwater species) (nevermind the poor plant that produces cotton getting raped more often to sustain the extra garments being made to help keep us warm because we cut back on fossil fuel useage)
Neverimd the fact that these garment producing factories use tons more fuel to produce said extra garments than we as residential users ever will. Nevermind the theory of supply and demand driving up the cost of those "extra" garments............blah,blah,blah................

Hell,................just heat the damn tank to what the fish need, or get rid of it and stay warm, spend more on clothes, and be as happy as an unhappy environmentalist that's freezing in his own home.
