Overhyped

Around here people are bananas about Tropheus. You aren't anyone to the fellow fish geeks unless you have an entire colony of some obscure locale strain that no one else knows about, that you bought on the i-net for some retarded amount of money.
I don't get keeping an entire tank of the exact same boring looking fish with no personality.

I'm not at all looking to start an argument over an opinion stated on the internet, but, I couldn't possibly disagree more with the statement that "[Tropheus] are boring looking fish with no personality." Tropheus are some of the most colorful, and some of the most entertaining cichlid species there I have ever kept, bred, or observed (in my opinion). To each their own though.

Add me to the list of people claiming Oscars and Flowerhorns are both overhyped.

Flowerhorns = agreed Oscars 50/50

I know they are not SA/CA but over rated for me is Kribensis everyone always bums them but nothing special and way over unpredictable in most set ups.

there are billions of hobbyist out there everything is CLICHE
There are definitely not billions of fish hobbyists.

IMO African = Poormans Saltwater setup.
If you want true color join the "Darkside"... ;)

I'm not big on the whole African fad, but know quite a few people who were, & have since sold them.
I agree they can be nice to look @.
Most of the time I was trying to see them my friends would have to "tease" them out with food for me to see them. They're always hiding in the rocks somewhere.
But then you have to be careful not to over do the treat... Bloat.

I think with the $$$ you spend on Africans, you might as well go salt.
I'd rather have live rock than, rock being lived in. ;)

To each, his/her own.

We all have our own reasons why we choose the fish we buy/own.
If we all had the same fish, it would get boring really quick.

BTW: Winking smilie = Just joking/sarcasm.

Oscars, everytime I tell people I have aggressive fish they always say, "You should get Oscars, they are the meanest fish".

Red Texas, everyone was blown away by a beautiful one just to find out that its one in a million. And that 'one' cost about a million, lol

Oscars are only mean, when crammed in a 10 gallon tank with 5 other fishes, while being pass the 8 inch mark.

Flowerhorns,Doviis, africans, and Oscars are consider overhyped.Even though I own a Tiger Oscar that is 10 inches,I felt that I had to rescue him,due to being dropped off by a previous owner.Overall he would be the only and last Oscar I plan on buying either way.

Trying telling that to my TIger Oscar that may be true in general but not in my case the only thing I've been able to house him with is clowns and tinfoils if there big enough I put smaller tinfoils in once and he ate 2 of the three the third was hiding in a cave. Tried silver dollars and many other things doesn't work out to well. He's more of a bully though then just down right agressive. If the fish fights back he usually gets his but kicked. Needless to say he now lives in a 75 alone.

As far as the question for the thread id say Oscars once mine is gone won't be getting another there just to boring IMO
