P. brachyura - anyone lucky enough to have one?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well a 14x8 is a good size tank

BUT

I think tigers and flower rays would be the very biggest rays in a tank that size and 4-6 max

The ray in the title of this thread (which I won't even attempt to spell ) is way to big for a 14x8 and to tell the truth they are not even nice looking you can get a much better looking smaller ray

Agreed...im only thinking of a pair of something aswell. I've kept several motoros over the years up to a 22''er, just thinking of something different. In your opinion what is the hardiest larger size ray? I know some people have alot of trouble with the flowers. My price range is pretty humble aswell, leos are far from my reach as the whole tank will only cost me a bit more than the price of one leo pup lol... u guys are truely dedicated to spend $1500 and up for your prized specimen.

Bd is where the money comes in. Pure Leos are a lot cheaper and hens are pretty cheap as well. A lot of the prices have dropped a lot on black rays. If you want a flower or a tiger they are about the same except tigers cost more. They both have great patterns and I personally will have both. They both have stability issues, with flowers having less from what I remember reading in my research.

ceja, apple rays are hard to wean off live food, they are almost obligate ambush predators. I've kept a few in my years and it was expensive and hard to feed them. My friend in China did have one that was trained to eat shrimp from a stick

Duely noted Wes, thanks for sharing ur info! I almost thought this pic was photoshoped due to the vibrant colors.

I must say ... these threads are my guilty pleasure. Much more entertaining that the normal nice pick up new fish threads.

To the op or Wednesday. ... being able to manufacture your own set up.. must be a huge benefit. You say your a metal fabricator but also a self employed artist.. which is it?
You say to have massive massive tanks.. you dont nees loads of money.. that I agree..
But you WILL need loads of $$$ to feed the giant fish you really want.
Oh... forgot about the aquarium zoo calibre filtration and heating.. and foundations needed to set this tank up.. true the tank can be done from second hand but the other stuff I wouldnt skimp out on.
Sorry its not the answer.you want to hear.. but you also mention you go months on end with no income...

How could you possibly provide optimum care for such giant fish.
