In the bright side, she died quickly. I have seen a long drawn out situations where the ray died a month and a half later. My suggestion is looking for a captive breed ray and start with that. Alot less headache and easier to get a grasp on ray keeping.
And as for picking the ray up I would not have seeing the condition it was in, rather then moving tanks again (to your tank) I would have told them to treat for parasites before I picked up.

Not being rude just my personal experience, I went threw a similar situation early in my ray keeping with a flower ray.
