Parents.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My mom is kinda neutral. My dad kept fish back in the day so hes cool with it, he just doesn't like spending a lot of money on it.

-> if your parents don't support your hobbies they aren't good parents

That depends greatly on the hobby...

That's true but at my age they should be glad I'm not running the streets gang banging like I was in my teen years. Atleast I'm trying to make a better life for me and my family instead of one a one way trip to jail or a grave.

I guess im one of the lucky ones, dad used to keep fish (koi and tropicals) till he got too old to handle taking care of them...

Now he just comes over to my place to enjoy fish, and even likes to help me aquascape my tanks when i let him know im re-decorating them...

My mum also likes my fish... So i guess at least for me its a win / win situation...

Wow is all I can say. Btw, there is a serious difference in supporting ones hobby, than supporting ones massive tank setup that your helping pay for (electricity forlights/heaters/filters) that can be expensive for a large tank! That does not make you a bad parent! And to so blatently say they are...

I am still young, but years are starting to tack on quicker. I respect my parents now more than ever. Love them the same!

I read through this and see alot of whining about they wont let me do this and that... How much are you paying for? How about running costs? Electricity? Water? Large setups are not cheap... I only bought one out of necessity!

Be happy they let you have a tank at all...

i pay for my fish and there fish tanks but i am 21 and i do have a job so i do help with pay for fish food and equipment but my parents pay for the Electricity but i know that my dad doesn't mind he has a 125 gallon saltwater tank still running with no fish in it. i do love my parent for letting me keep all 6 of my tanks.

I don't get how kids move out at 18/19...how much experience and education can you have possibly gotten at this point in your life... Unless you guys live in some part of the world where the cost of living is a joke and the minimum wage is 11$ an hour.

I lived in college beginning at 17, graduated at 20 and had an engineering job lined up in a different city than my parents even before i graduated. it is possible and no necessarily low income, all depends on the level and field of education.

Yes it's possible, but you are a rare case. If you finished by 20 that means all you had was a bachelors in engineering, which doesn't really put you really that far ahead of the crowd (especially in a field like that) in 2012. The fact you had a job lined up in your field before you even graduated is also a rarity in itself, you were either very lucky, daddy had connections, or you graduated with a GPA in the range of 3.8-4.0, all of which are not exactly common.

The year was 1994 ;) the degree was BSEE from Georgia Tech. The job was in Houston TX for 40k a year. No connection from daddy or mommy though.
