how long do you all think a scombs (or maby an armatus) at about 3-4" last in a 75 gal??? I heard that armatus hit a growth spurt around 10", do scombs do the same thing? or is it sooner/later? any info on growth rate is awsome.

you could probably keep the scombs in a 75 for very long.
they grow super slow.
armatus hits growth spurt around 6 inches.
and it could probably live in the 75 for maybe 3 mths depending on how big you get it.

thanks Channa,

I'm going to try and get scomb at around 2-3" if possible (maby 4")

that is great and leads me to another few questions:

how many can be kept in a 75? do they do better in groups or what?

what about medicating? because they are in the Characin family, and many of the fish in this family are sensitive to medications, do i need to worry about medicating?? in March 2007 TFH, Top of the Food Chain author Brian Scott mentioned that they are vulnerable to bacterial infections because when they get spooked they hit the sides of the tanks, is the bacterial infection part still an issue?? also im getting these straight from the wholesaler so i am looking to medicate for parasites as well, so what medicines are strong enough but not to strong???

for bacterial infections use salt only. for internal parasites use prazipro.

ive used alot of medications on payara, and these are the best ways.

they are more vulnerable then other fish, but if they are hitting the glass it means ur tank is to small and they aren't comfortable

vamptrev's right.
hes the real payara pro. :D
i only use salt for any of my fish.
i'd get a few of them.
they do like to be in groups.
ive also kept them in pairs before.
but ive heard from some people that they will fight.

okay so im gonna ask my boss to pick me up 3-4 scombs as small as possible and only medicate with salt (salt and warmer water 82-84? or salt and 78-80 F water?).

awsome, thank you all so much

i would try to get tats instead of scombs. you'll have better luck.

My two Tats have been great so far. Almost straight onto dead food. Now they eat bits of cut up Whitebait and Tilapia. Even when I open the lid, you can see them looking up waiting for the food to go in! Living well with the Rays as well.
The only problem I have had was with the 5" aro. It dived down for some food and one of the Tats snagged it but let it go. Now it stays on the top out of the way!
