Bashers tend to be good hearted soul who feel obliged to answer one too many stupid questions which they too asked when they first began....

... the dark side is strong after answering the same inane questions over and over again.
perfect reason to put those questions in their own section of the site

could i suggest to the mods that we have a special section of the site dedicated to noob questions? (not call it that but something to direct beginners to it).... this could help reduce the cycling threads and some other very basic things that could easily be answered in some stickies. that way, people that don't mind taking time to educate newbies can and people that don't want to will have every opportunity to avoid them. just an idea
I do not like this idea one bit.

The point of these forums is to share ideas, opinions and suggestions regardless of your learning levels. How will the beginners feel more than welcomed to mingle with the community if they feel their questions are segregated from the other threads where the questions are distinguished as "beginner" or "advanced"? If it were me, I'd be pissed about this kind of feeling too. It totally alienates some folks who are sensitive to how they are treated and builds up elitist attitude among others who feel they "graduated" from that forum already.

Another point is such forum will clutter itself with various questions that may or may not be categorized in the existing forums. We already have enough forums to cater to any new questions. I do not believe we need this particular forum. If people start utilizing that forum, it only means more workload for the moderators to sort the threads out. The forums here segregrate each topic to make it easier for us to sift through the archives for whatever purpose it may serve. The General Aquaria Discussion forum already gets sorted everyday and it is not an easy job despite done consistently for the benefit of all the members here.

Overall, I will not support this idea. These are only my thoughts and does not reflect the views of the staff as a whole.

I don't mean for it to be a class distinction. but if you have never owned a fish before, you are going to ask more basic questions than people that have owned fish

No, I never said that you suggested anything close to class distinction and I know you would never do that. I just do not like this idea because of any sensitive feelings it may spawn particularly alienation of those who are new to the hobby from those who already are well prepared with the knowledge that would benefit the former. My point is just that we do not need such forum just for this sole purpose.

I am aware Aquariacentral has one for beginners since I moderate that forum too however the forum there has been around for a long time and is already well established especially as Aquariacentral focuses on the general husbandry. This forum on the other hand is too advanced already specializing in various fish that most people new to the hobby would not have dared touch until they feel they are prepared for it which is why I disagreed with the idea of having such forum as it alienates most folks.

I admit I myself felt alienated too when I was new to this forum due to its different atmosphere compared to several other forums I had encountered but I eventually managed to mingle well with the community. In the end, all of these just come down to toning down how we word our advice without alienating the new folks. I guess what I am saying aside from this suggested forum being unnecessary, is that in the end, we have to learn to respect each other and that is all that matters. No need to spite someone because he is either stubborn to your advice or could not comprehend quickly to what you were talking about.

The easiest thing to do, if you see a thread and you don't want to answer it, then
move on. If it is a recycled newb question and you don't want to answer it, then
move on. Its that simple. There will always be members on here who will answer it
eventually.
If not, then they will be forced to do their own research.
