I have to ask has anyone seen me openly bashing a poster?

With the 2 incidents named (scalding and bleach)
I said to the scalding (thats sad)

and to the bleach incident i said ( this has to be a joke)

Is that considered bashing?

its not that noobs are asking repetitive questions, its that they ask questions, get the right answer, ignore it, and keep asking until they get an answer THEY want to hear.
Like I said in my first post here, Gshock, that is not up to us to order them what they should do. We can only advise, that's all. It is their choice whom to believe. When this happens, ignore him already and he will learn the hard way. Repeating your advice in your attempt to drill it into his head becomes a rather futile effort and you get burned out. That's understood but it can be avoided by ignoring him completely and let him learn to sort things himself.

If he remains stubborn about it, what can you do? None at all. Not many people share the same perception that we have, the fact that fish are not just mere novelties that ought to be disposed straight away. We can only do so much. That's reality for us.

Hybridtheory, this thread is not about all about personal issues. It is for the forum in general where proper decorum is concerned.

It's all fish man. I think most of us own certain fish because we think they're cool or whatever. Most of us aren't keeping fish for anything other than self indulgence. And sooner or later someone or many will have that fish that you've been keeping for years.

As far as the people who make mistakes... People make mistakes. Ask me how many fish I've killed by accident. Ask any true monster fish keeper on this site the same question. Crap happens. Fish die. Even on the experianced. Equipment breaks. Tankmates eat them. It's all part of the hobby and the learning experiance. If people on the site making mistakes piss you off think of all those who aren't on the site that are making mistakes.

It's heartbreaking to hear people who don't know what they're doing and kill fish out of lack of knowledge. But I wouldn't loose my mind over it. Where that person came from there's 20 more I guarantee. Most just need a little help. And a few are complete tools. But they're not worth a heart attack.

We think alike.;)

Their just fish people, all in all were talking about fish. The same fish(maybe not the same, but still fish)that we eat at restaraunts or at the house.

Like cichlaguapote has said we all make mistakes. I've lost fish, it happens. Was it my fault, hell yes it was. Noone is perfect. Maybe you forget the Prime because your baby son is crying or the ticker goes off on that parmesian chicken your making for your GF. A few fish happen to die, it sucks but their fish. Fish are last on the totem pole of priorities.

I haven't seen any major bashing really. Some people can get rude but that's when you ignore them or better yet report the post and have it deleted off of your thread. That's always fun.:grinno: Like everyone else has said we were all once newbies. If the newbie doesn't believe that a Oscar can't live in a 29, then so be it. It dies, and the newbie learns from his mistakes.

At the end of the day, it's the internet. Your not living/eating/best friends with 99% of these people on MFK.

you man .. you have bashed me on more the 3 of my threads and you know you have done it .. trying to act like its only you im talking about you missed the majority of what i was saying . but act holy and all that jazz because thats exactly what people hate .. 90% of people see things one way ..you had it work another .. your way is not god .. but you fight and fight to show that it is true .. even if it worked for you that does not mean that it will for everyone .. but when 25 other people say .. use this other stuff .. cost the same .. works the same .. and we all used it .. why not just go the easy proven way .. and not YOUR way .. since you are the only one ...

you have been rude .. thats all i was saying .. so have i .. so have most people .. and what im saying is that it needs to stop so that the real goal can be met .. or at least chilled down a bit .. and i think even you will agree with that ..

Hello all,

I need to add my thoughts on all of this.

First, lets not call people out. If you have a problem deal with it. There is no reason to take a thread trying to get people involved in helping members and turn it into a personal discussion, whether it is on topic or not.

Now, it is sad that people are afraid to ask questions. Since we have gotten this issue out in the open, I would hope that people no longer fear posting. If you all start posting, report issues when they arise, the problem would be fixed. Now if we all leave it to other people to do, it will never happen.

Let us this discussion as a chance to turn things around. Lets start helping. A forum is only worth what is posted. If no one posts it was good is the site. You all determine the future of the forum. Step up and do it. Do not let others, bully you. If you report problems we will do our best to help. If as members you do not help each other the culture will never change. I am not a ray expert. I can not do this... but as mods we can do our best to help members feel welcome. I hope that we can do this more in the future.

I couldn't agree more. This is research, just one of many resources on the internet. Some people value the opinions of many rather than just one author. Some like to take bits and pieces of many opinions and form their own conclusion. That's exactly what a forum provides. Remember, the only stupid question is the one not asked.

This is one of the best things about DIY .. i am in the middle of a 300 gal build .. i take a little from here .. and a little from there .. and make it my own .. but it sucks that some people jump in and kinda mess things up ..

could i suggest to the mods that we have a special section of the site dedicated to noob questions? (not call it that but something to direct beginners to it).... this could help reduce the cycling threads and some other very basic things that could easily be answered in some stickies. that way, people that don't mind taking time to educate newbies can and people that don't want to will have every opportunity to avoid them. just an idea

Bashers tend to be good hearted soul who feel obliged to answer one too many stupid questions which they too asked when they first began....

... the dark side is strong after answering the same inane questions over and over again.
