Perfect cichlid for 75 gallons

Don't overlook Blue Acaras. I have not had one but looked them up. They look like a cross of JDs and GTs. But they are said to have Oscar like personality. Adult size is about an inch or 2 smaller than JDs so could get away with a breeding pair is so inclined. Plus a lot smaller mouth so that would open more choices for dithers and or bottom feeders.

I'd say acaras would be a better fit :)

I agree. A blue acara would be a better choice than a Texas now that I think about it.

go with a single medium sized cichlid. i wouldnt hesitate to put a cuban or texas in a 75.

blue acaras are great too. you can easily have a small group of them in a 75. just be prepared for lots of breeding.

i would also condone a pair of severums in a 75.

It really depends on what you are looking for. Personality is always key, but will you get bored with having a single fish in a 75 gallon tank?

If you are looking for a tough fish that will follow you around and want a single specimen tank then id say go for the texas cichlid, or other options would be to look at is Green Terror or Red Devil.

If you want to have more fish in tank then I would look at the acaras or even the Electric Blue variant, Firemouths, or more peaceful fish like eartheaters, youd be able to keep other fish with any of these with little issues (giant danios make excellent dithers).

Oscar!!!

I just want a fish that is active and will not be shy with me, but I’m worried all the oscar will do is just follow me and just sit there the rest of the day

I agree with the Texas cichlid also. Green terrors are beautiful but imo they grow pretty slow. Red Devils may be a little too large for a 75 imo
