Perfect cichlid for 75 gallons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I mean a single fish with tankmates or just a pair without tankmates, but idk what to do with fry. But just asking Can a red devil live in a 90 gallon tank, without tankmates

i keep my red devil in a 75. hes does well in there so far. plan to keep him there as long as i have him. a lot of forum members think 75 is on the small side and i would agree, but at this point i dont find it feasible to give a lone fish a 125 or bigger tank.

i live in a townhouse. the way i see it, so does the rd haha.

I just feel like the rd has the most personality, and usually end up smaller than Oscars, so they are really my choice for having a single fish, if I were to get a Cuban cichlid I would have a pleco and maybe some dithers.

Low bio load isn't quite true. To a degree the biolad is based on the amount you feed which can lead to increased waste...

Thanks everyone for opinions, but what were their personalities like? How active are your rd

probably the most personable fish i have ever kept. he seems to be more intelligent, inquisitive, and interactive than my other cichlids. probably why a certain type of fishkeepers exclusively keep amphilophus. I'd love to keep a barred midas or trimac one day too.

In my experience not every red devil is the same, some become more active as they reach a certain age, some are very personable when young. I currently have a pair in a 125 with a pair of Honduran Red Points and giant danios. My male is around 10" and has started attacking my hand when I go to clean the tank!

Perfect, that’s what I’m looking for in a fish, how often should I feed the rd to keep bioload down and keep it healthy

as far as i know theyre around the same size. general consensus is that the rd is a longer, more streamlined fish and the midas are bulkier and get the larger humps.

your devil will let you know when its hungry. mine comes to the top of the tank and starts dancing around when he wants shrimp pellets lol. i generally only feed him when hes doing that and then toss a pellet mixture in before lights out for the raphael cat to eat.
