My parents friends back in Zimbabwe had a hyena as a pet. It was an awesome sight. The thing was tough as nails and very protective of the kids. they are a bit boistrous and a light tap does not get them out of the way as they think you are playing and push back even harder. They are physically very strong and fit but not strong compared to lion.

The hyena used to run into a hessian sack and then we would spin him around, heavy as hell so never made a full rotation even. More times than not we would wind up on our faces after he ran into the sack. They used to leave the doors open at night because if it wanted to get into the house it would just jump through a window without hesitating. It used to love getting in to the bath if someone was bathing.

Definately not a pet for someone who is not 110% dedicated and has ample space, especially if they are one their own. Some go insane in zoos due to lack of companionship or space as they are pack animals.

I would have never thought that a hyena would protect kids nor anyone at all.
Know they are more related to mongoose just never imagined them as protective at all would have thought dangerous and unpredictable.

well they are not stronger than lions
but if lions and hyenas were the same size hyenas would be alot stronger
i had to do a small report packet on a movie about hyenas vrs lions in bio a few weeks ago
and hyenas kill lions all the time in packs
but lions also kill hyenas but dont need backup if they fought 1 on 1

There is a National Geographic special few yrs old you should see if you didn't . I forgot the name lol but thibnk called Eternal enemies .

Its about Lions and Hyenas its great. I particularly enjoyed watching lions kill hyenas though hyenas did return the "favor".

You can get a striped hyena pup thats bottle raised for $4700 and they are supposedly nice.

Wow, there are some interesting offerings there.

Its all good until it mauls the owner and escapes, eats the neighborhood pets and children....then meets its fate with a bullet.

Edit:
One time while on vacation in central florida we checked out a small zoo. Parked next to us was a minivan driven by a bunch of indian guys...with a tiger in the back. They were trying to unload it at the zoo. ****ing stupid...

mabey they are not cuddling with the thing because ITS DANGEROUS!!
de de deeee

what i was trying to say that at the end of the day that hyena will be shoved in a cage or box just big enough for its to fit. its not a pet. its just a piece or property that is used. I agree they do get killed by these but doesnt mean they can or should abuse this animal and abuse it for their convinience. People are killed by dogs here all the time i still have my pooches cuddled up to me right now. they are my pets...that hyena is not a pet.
