huh, try living around here the petsmart and petsupermart is a bunch of dummies dont know nothing about the fish unless it is on a label and cant give good advice one pet store told me that oranda goldfish should never go into an actual tank they should just be put in a small fish bowl and change the water every few weeks. I was speachless at how dumb these guys were, and there fish looks awful most of the time you see dead ones floating all around the fish are mostley in horrible shape its sad thats why every time I go I just want to buy all the fish and bring them home so they have good care if I had the money and time I would but I dont. If you ask simple questions they are like huh huh hmmm not heard of that im like what!!!!!! that is like beginner stuff come on I am an idiot and I know it lol. Ask them about swim bladder and they have never heard of it and said oh thats not a diesease its just dying, ask about different orandas and they never heard of them and like huhhhh im dumb huhhhh hmmm

in england we have got pets at home which i think both are kind of the same sort of shop, i walked in there and ask if they sold filter pads for an fx5 and he asked me if it was an internal or external filter lol. that was enough for me i was out of there lol

You think that's bad? How about people who complaints about thing that he doesn't have a clue about it? :D

wow, :chillpill:

At a fish store around here the girl didn't know what a red tail catfish was...

Last time I was there getting CLs on sale (the only good thing they do minus the instant ich) and someone was getting 3 Oscars, I'm sure in a tank much too small and the guy drops one from the third row up! You know what he says??? "If I had a dime for every time that happened" And went on to laugh it up with the customer. I was in shock.

I wish I could make a cheese tray exotic or big enough for the whine of a thread like this.

I agree with the earlier statment about the wage that these people are paid and how it is not really in the works for them to become more than a hourly employee of a chain petstore that does not offer full time hours. I would think that the 2 or 3 jobs they are working keeps them to busy to become expert wet pet keepers.

Now, the petsmart in my area has a employee who would blow away many herp keepers on this site. Not all but many. She has over 90 reptiles/turtles and has an insane set up for them as she lives on an acreage outside of the city. So not all petsmart employees are useless. Many may seem useless, but, I think it is more that they are in a dead end no where job.

I gave my florida soft shell turtle to the above lady because she blew me away with her knowledge and passion for the hobby.

When I purchased my male convict from them, the worker asked my what size tank I was planning on putting him in. I responded that I was going to put him in a goldfish bowl!:D

Nevertheless, the worker just gave me a weird look and sold him to me anyway. These people need to get a sense of humor!

Alright settle down, lets not think that the rest of the world are as into fishes as we are. They get paid minimum probably and they are not and don't aspire to become hobbyist let alone fish professionals

Its really not the employees fault, have you ever read any of the info tags for the fish? While what the clerks tell you is wrong, its consistent with what their employer tells them to tell you.

yea i get it, totally

the only thing that annoys me is when you tell them different, they try to convince you they are right. i had a dude tell me silver aros only eat goldfish and i told him i feed mine meal worms, shrimp, night crawlers and tilapia fillets. he called bs and i just walked away annoyed. not at him but at myself for even trying to argue with him

What's the wage got to do with it,what ever happened to work ethic and trying to do your best. These employees, just like everyone else who works for someone else agreed to the amount they would be paid before donning the store shirt.I know this does not apply to all pet store employees,I worked part time at a LFS and didn't expect to amass enough capital to purchase a vacation home but I knew I would earn the money that I was going to be paid. The staff at the Petsmart near me are pretty good at their tasks from what I notice when I do happen to go there....My problem is with the prices of their stuff.

90% of the people who post complaints on here about petsmart and its employees are clearly more ignorant than those who work there. I work in Petcare at petsmart, I know what im talking about. Thats it, there will always be someone in the petcare department that knows about fish. They have to have people under them, not everyone is going to be experts. These stupid threads are really getting annoying.

how are the ones complaining more ignorant? assuming all the stories are true, that's not the case

and a lot did point out that they know it's not ALL petsmart employees
