i use to see red bay snooks all the time. i try to avoid petsmart and their fish at all costs, i'll only go to get food

how come? i've bought most my fish at petsmart and petco... the jack dempseys i got are outstanding.

My Petsmarts always have clean tanks and healthy stock for the most part. I will have to go pay a visit to see if they have Geos now too. I have 3 in town but I have only been to two of them. One has about 2x as many fish as the other but both are nice and well kept. I have bought quite a few fish there without problems. I did have some live bearers from there with ich once but whatever, no biggie.

Petsmart uses those "horrible Feeder blocks" in feeder and bottom feeder tanks only. This is to ensure that those fish will get something to eat if they happen to not eat when feeding is done in the morning and so they can "graze" during the day. They also ensure that their herbivorous and some omnivores get increased veggies in the mornings...I've never seen a LFS do that on a regular basis. And there is nothing wrong with centralized filtration (not when you are running a dozen UV lights to kill bacteria and parasites). Every Petsmart i have ever been in (and thats maybe a dozen in different areas of the country) have always had clean tanks and relatively healthy stock. I've seem more than a few LFS who only wish their tanks looked like Petsmart's. In any of the PM's i've been to, I have yet to see any fish infected with ick. Just because they are a large chain store does not make them bad.

The petco near me has better heathy fish my petsmart is ok but not as good. Yet l do buy my plants at petsmart.

All and all chain petstores are not that bad it's just they cause little mom and pop shops to close down.

ya, i just saw geos yesterday at the Pasadena CA petsmart =)

the petsmart by be actually has pretty healthy stock, i just wish they would stop selling pacus

I just saw them in richmond, va as well. go figure right?

I like the petsmart by my house here, they have great selection for what its worth. I have seen geos but not juripari, I think they were altifrons. Anyway, they had calvus there one time and I didnt buy because they were $40. An African electric is always nearly $30 so I stick to not buying there if possible. Its fun to look though.

I would agree with that statement as well. Pacu as well as irredescent sharks should not be sold to the average aquariust. They get way too large to be housed in a standard aquarium
