Petsmart :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i told them if they came in like that why would they except them, and as far as nothing they could do,guess not after they already accepted them,i just told them they should not sell people fish that they know is already sick, the manager said they had to sell them in order to get a new shippment.cant win a losing battle

I can't speak for Petsmarts but I know at least one around here has a sick bay. At Petco if a fish comes in like that I don't accept it in. If I miss it and find it after releasing then I treat it or otherwise take care of it. And in no way does my current stock affect what I can and can't get in. I could pack 500 fish into a 10gal if I felt the urge...of coarse I'd then be promptly fired. :irked:

down here in So Fla we have Petsmart, Petco and a local chain called Pet Supermarket . . . they're not perfect by any means, and I'm no fan of Petco, but I have seen at least some responsibility at most of 'em . . . the fish that I have bought from them have all done well, including some clown loaches, which can always be tricky

I think what helps is that we also have a large number of independent LFS that sell quality fish, so maybe it keeps them all (more) honest . . . it probably also helps that a lot of fish farms are located in Florida, so they have access to good product that don't have to travel hundreds of miles to get to their stores

 Wow if an employe at my lfs did that I would flip.

You should have contacted the manager or something. That's horrible.

They come on the truck. I'm a lead stocker. They come on a 5x4 foot pallet with 10-15 fish boxes, you can't just "not accept them". They can't call the fish DC(distribution center) and tell them were not accepting these fish. We could write them off but then were stuck with 10 Oscars and no where to keep them plus we will get the 10 more Oscars in next week. Even if we adopted these out, it would take weeks to get rid of them all.

I do think they should inform the customer at the very least. I've had several Oscars with HITH before, it's not a serious disease as long as you keep the water clean.

Went to petsmart for some feeders. They were out, so I asked for 10 of the cheap zebra danios. I was told in a rude manner that she could not sell them to me. They were pets. So I said, "so it's ok with you if my pet starves to death? She informed me it "wasn't nice" to feed fish to other fish. Has anyone had a similar experience? Never going there again, by the way.

Yeah their not allowed to if they know their for feeders. Besides the feeders of course, lol. Dumb I know but that's just how it is.

It is in fact Company policy to not sell Rodents or Non-Feeder fish at Petsmart. Not all people at Petmart/ Petco are stupid and this flaming is rediculous and an insult to humanity I'm not a Petsmart Stereotype and you shouldn't flame people or blame employees for doing their job. Everyone has to start somewhere no one is born knowing everything about fish....Rant over TTFN
I agree!!! Their just following policy. I work at Petsmart, I like my job. I will say no easily, I'm not losing my job just to make 1 customer happy.

They don't take back fish anyway. I think Petco did at one point or at least the one near me did. It had a large tank with some semi-large fish that was probably in someone's 10G tank.

They also don't have problems selling you lots of fish the same day you're buying a fish tank.

glad I have someone on here with me separating fact from fiction,Packer. Petsmart and Petco are by no means perfect but there are people in there who know what they are doing and who are trying to make the companies better.

It's probably different at every location but with my supplier we can send them back if it's ridiculous enough.

I am enjoying this way too much. :) Any other beef anyone has with petsmart/petco that myself or someone who knows can help you out with?
