Pink Convicts

If the couple is constantly swimming together and play chasing each other, if the male is flaring his gills at the female. Plus if the female's belly is larger then normal and she is really colorful- that's usually a good indicator that tells she's full of eggs.

I have had a pair of con's for about 3 months in a 20 by themselves, water conditions perfect, but cant seem to get them to breed any chance they just don't like each other ? lol

Well my pair of cons is in a 20, and since I decided to keep this batch of fry in the tank, the female is trying to eat them. My male has completely taken over all parental duties and hardly lets my female out of her cave. I have them and 2 zebra danios as dithers in a tank. I think these little spats that they have is because I didn't allow my male to choose his mate, I chose her for him.

But cons will breed anytime and anywhere. Try throwing a few dither fish in with them and see what happens. If they see a few fish swimming around like chickens with their heads cut off, they will feel a bit more comfortable. Maybe a few zebra danios or tiger barbs. Did you purchase the pair separately, or did you buy a handful and let them pair off?

I chose a pair from my lfs who currently had fry in the tank. I was warned/advised that there were multiple pairs in the tank prior to my arrival and the male and female may not have previously breeded with one another. I will pick up some dither fish this week see if that changes anything. I do have access to pick up more con's they are in relative abundance at my LFS, but every week the females go quickly.
