Pitbulls attack mother, kills child(4 years old)

Its funny to see how peoples impression of APBTs have changed over the last 50-100yrs.

In 1903, Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson hit the road with co-driver Sewall K. Crocker and a pit bull named Bud, who wore goggles, just like his master, to keep the dust from his eyes. Together, the three made the very first road trip across the US. Bud drew almost as much public attention as his fellow travelers. While it is unclear as to why Jackson and Crocker picked up Bud about halfway through their trip, one story suggests that Jackson rescued him from dogfighters.

In the early twentieth century, pit bulls were so respected for their loyalty, determination and bravery that they were chosen to represent

America in WWI posters. The first decorated canine war hero was a pit bull named Sergeant Stubby. He was, until his death, a guest of every White House administration.

Many highly respected historical figures have owned pit bulls: President Woodrow Wilson, President Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart, and Thomas Edison, to name a few.

Today, pit bulls are respected and dearly loved by those who know them for what they truly are and not the monsters the media has created.

I'll add that in the agility courses we did there was a pitbull from a very similar background as our Shepard. It wasn't much different other than the fact the Shepard and the pitbull had the two highest drives to please their owners more than any of the border collies or more famous high energy dogs. The dogs want structure in their life's. If someone doesn't create one they'll make their own.

this also helps prove my idea that its more of a numbers game. that sites say they were bred to fight but it also says that through selective breeding they were bred to not bite people.
but the more theyre irresponsibly bred, the more those traits start to disappear. and a lot breeders will actually have their dogs temperament tested before they use it for breeding to avoid aggression problems. but because pits are so common no one does that. and inbreeding also leads to temperament issues.
sure the dogs were made to fight but according to that site that were also bred to be people friendly.

I'll ask this question- who has experience working with these dogs besides me and pops pops ? I'm talking actual ownership and experience. Not my neighbors had one on a chain in the front yard when I was little 40 years ago. I'm talking ownership, training, or daily working around them.

no argument. but this has nothing to do with the statistics of the animal/breed it self in society. I am sure they where well kept and not allowed to roam free the streets or behind a cheap fence.

I have in the past and have close friends that breed them to this day(I have never seen aggression from these dogs, it must be the training). I have other close friends that breed pit mixes(exactly the same mix as my dog) for hunting purposes.
