My tank is exposed to sunlight most of the day...

Throw a black towel over it or the like during the bright day light. With high nitrates, that green water is easily from the intense light.

A sucker fish? Theyre called plecos and theyre for eating poop not algae. ;)

Mine don't eat poop, but sure know how to make it!

The only time I had green water, was when my tank was in contact with sunlight (this happened in the Fall for me)...Didn't do anything out of the ordinary, just closed the blinds in the afternoon, so the afternoon sun wouldn't strike the tank. Water came clear!

If that is not the cause, get a good UV sterilizer!

Could always get ya a Magnum filter and use the micron cartrige to polish the water. They work great at clearing up bacteria and algae blooms. I had a pretty bad algae bloom going on my 55 due to too much light, and after plugging in the Magnum my water was completely polished in a few hours. Or a diatom filter would accomplish the same goal.

You can help fight the cause by limiting sunlight exposure, and cleaning the gravel better, as others have said. :)

Sure they eat poop. It's like crack for them. You just never see it cause they are self concious about it and don't want any witnesses...

Intense light from your lights or direct sunlight is the most likely cause as pointed out. Just do a 50%ish water change and clean the gravel and try to reduce the direct light.

That way you don't have to cycle the tank again. It'll save a lot of time and pain.

Its true. Plecos are drug addicts.
