If you use melafix add an airstone. If you cant add an airstone lower the water level to increase surface agitation. Just a precaution as I believe and have read about quite a few people who had mela fix actually starve a bit of the tanks oxygen.
I'm coming into the party a bit late, but the tissue hanging out almost looks like gill raker...

i just noticed that his tail fin is chewed up badly. why? what else is in the tank with him? i'm not sure a young fish would swim that fast and powerfully to the point of damaging himself that badly. with that open gash and chewed up tail fin, i think there might be some other issue at hand.
Looks like that wound was from fighting, I've never seen a fish injury itself on driftwood before...
On the plus side, I had a Niger Triggerfish get mauled by a reefshark, and his intestines were actually hanging out...I caught him, poked them back inside with a pen, and he healed up just fine

idk wat happend to its tail. other fish i have with him is 3 inch datnoid and a 1 inch lown loach. you know i honestly think it might be a fight now. cause i dont remember seeing my fish with a ripped up tail.ohh and i just bought melafix!!!! i hope it works! should i take out my fish and put that hangging stuff back inside him?
totally for sure i second the fight thought since that does not look like a bump wound from wood unless you have the rare african razor tooth wood.
