PLEASE HELP!!! MY AROWANA MAY BE DYING!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes, thats the basic idea, but you must add a dechlorinating solution first. as you remove the water you need to vaccum the substrate to remove the dirt that has built up there. A python system that hooks up to your tap is a great way to go about doing this.

sorry about your fish. sounds like it was probably more of an oxygen issue in the bag than a temperature issue.

its not trolling... ill say it straight up... im not the one doing this.... its actually my mom.... shes inexperienced... she was given a tank and thought she'd get a nice fish.... she hasn't had past experience with taking care of fish... so she thought there was nothing to it.. just buy the fish put it in a tank with water... she later realizes that fishes were dying all of a sudden.... it turned out there was no heater in the tank.... after we got a heater... the fishes lived a little longer .... but then when it came time to changing water... she just told me to help here carry buckets of water and dump it out.... i didnt know anything... i assumed she knew what she was doing.... so now im faced with this situation.. and you guys criticize me.... all i asked for was help....

can you guys at least..... tell me what i need for a beginner..... like equipment such as siphoning tubes.. i have no idea what vacuuming the substrate means.... i just googled the python system.. my sink is no where near my tank so the only way i remove water is siphoning it to a bucket and then dumping it out....

You have to understand that most of us really, really care about fish. So it's sad and it makes us angry to hear this. You've been getting good information. There's a lot you need to know.

--Researching before you buy: Don't walk into your LFS and buy a fish unless you know how large it gets and what it requires. Your Silver Aro will grow to at least 3 feet. You're not prepared for that. Most likely, your other ones will grow the same size. This isn't anyone's fault but yours, or your mom's, or both. A Google search will reveal the most basic information within ten seconds.

Not to sound like an ass, but in the time it's taken you to post this thread and wait for responses, you could have read a number of websites like that one I just posted, telling you exactly what you did wrong.

you do realize how big aro's get right? A 40 gallon tank will last a few months at Which point you'll have to upgrade to a much bigger tank. I personally would suggest taking the aro's back until you learn more about them, have your tank fully cycled, and have a bigger tank

wow taking out all the water is never good it takes out natural bacteria in the water that are good. it also isnt good for fish at ALL, a water change is only a portion of the water and should rarely be taking out more than 50%. BTW your aro probably didnt have enough oxygen and started to suffocate.
