There are thousands of police officers risking there ass day in and day out, and people see a fricking youtube clip and are ready to pass judgement on the situation without even being there, pathetic if ya ask me.

Im sorry that you don't see a problem with the police officers' actions. Being untrained is not an excuse for killing the dog, if they needed to they could have called for animal control the dog was already tied up. Sorry but it does not take much more than common sense to solve thier situation. And saying that they were untrained is an unnresponsible answer.

I see so if it attacked and killed the little girl then you would be alright with shooting the dog. How about if it only bit here nose off, probably not worth shooting then, hugh?
It did not attack her, though. The media says "Attack", yet there is no report that the dog made contact. And as I said, I did not see it, so for all I know it was a dog who was untrained and was acting like an idiot trying to greet. An attack is a dog actually biting, and then continuing to bite. Not rushing up and scaring someone. But yes, if I saw a dog hurting a child, or anyone, I'd intervene and if I ha to, shoot the dog.
What about the officers ssafety You tthink that white pole was going to stop that dog from attacking if it so chose too?
Yes, actually, a catch pole is designed to control a dog and keep it safely away from your body, even a very strong dog. The officers were not in danger, and the dog reacted with fear and tried to get away when they caught it on a pole.

I need to go out and run some errands, but feel free to leave questions for me, I'll get back when I can.

Bderick Im not sure what you saw in that video, but there was no threat to the safety of the officers. I personally would not want the dog killed no matter what it did, but even with that said it DID NOT attack the girl. So your saying since the little girl and her mom were scared of the dog, and the police were scared as well... that it means the dog should of been shot regardless of its actions. I still don't understand how people try to make dogs responsible for thier actions... if the dog attacked it would have been its owners fault.

Your right, since they were not trained in handling a vicious dog they should have left it until animal control arrived, right? Of course the dog coulkd of again escaped of the leash holding it and attacked someone else, but at least the officers would have been witin there scope of work.

It always make things better for victims of dog attacks to know that the owners are held responsable. The dog was running loose and had been reported as aggressive, in my book any means necessary to contain the dog is acceptable.

There was no vicious dog, your off ranting about a situation that didn't exist...maybe you should watch the video. Or read some of the reports where this vicious dog was leashed by the "victim's" mother and then fed by her as well. Very vicious...

Uh........exactly what is the point of that petition? Doesn't exactly have a call to action. What exactly does making the police "pay for this action" mean?

Petitions are pointless. Especially online ones.

I'll bring this point up again. "Pay for this action" is not a specific enough call to action, which is the point of a petition.

Do you want the officers suspended? Do you want them trained properly so this action isn't repeated? Do you want them to replace the dog?

......Or do you just want to raise a stink with no real outcome?

Not trying to be a dick just giving some constructive criticism so the chances of success are increased.

I watched the video, which is only a small view of what really happened.

And WTF would you describe this as, if not aggressive?

"I hear a big dog growling and I turn around and it was running towards us. I shut my daughter behind me and I started to yell and kick at it," Coleman said.

If you read that in context that is when they passed where the dog lived, right after it got off the leash. Shall we kill every guard dog, if they happen to get off the leash? Now I agree that this particular incident could have been avoided if the dog was properly tied up and supervised. Although even responsible owners will tell you accidents do happen, and sometimes thier dog gets lose. I feel the mother did the right thing in the situation. The cops did not, if you saw the video then how can you accuse the dog of being vicious. I understand we don't have the full story, but even if the dog was rabid five minutes before the video the behaviour it displayed while being caught did not justify being shot.
