Police shoot restrained dog *petition*

Hey Bderick, I have a few points to make regarding a few of your posts. The police had no reason to think that they can't control the dog with the pole. The pole is rigid, so unless the officer drops the pole, the dog ain't going anywhere. And also, how long has being shot in the side, then shot in the head a minute later count as "putting the dog down"? Just sayin'.

Cops are trained to shoot center mass, as he did. Unfortunately it did not kill the dog so then shooting the motionless dog in the head was acceptable.

Being this was on the cop's video cam from the patrol car. I would say that the command was given from above and the reason for using pole was just to put the dog in a more acceptable position, on soft ground, for discharging of the firearm. This way less danger of ricochet

Actually, I'm in the midst of writing a kind, LONG letter to that city/the PD ect.. It also may get me nowhere, but I am making some suggestions in there about how to better handle a situation as this, and talking about the dog in that particular instance.

If anyone else would like to, it would be nice.

I think the petition is more to show support for some kind of action against this happening again, or to at least have the officers enlightened on what they did wrong. You simply cannot say the dog was out of control while it's on a catch pole, it had actually given up it seemed before he shot her. I can say that both my pomeranian mix and my german shepherd would react the same to having a pole attaching to their neck by strangers.

Edit*
I though police were only permitted to kill domestic animals if they are a threat?

as i said before, when in the public eye u must act accordingly. WHat they did was wrong. U have animal control for a reason. And if the poles on......

A tazer and pepper spray works wonders on dogs. very effective without needing to shoot a dog.

But in alot of people on heres opinion, cops can do what ever they want without any fear of gettin in trouble.

Bd, if they were to catch guy A, after guy B says he tryd to stab me, though guy A has never had a history of stabbing anyone or even trying, then when arrested he gets freaked out and starts yelling can they shoot him?

Bd I can almost guarentee you they did not get permission from higher up. Even if thier supperior officer hated dogs more than lucifer himself, he would know better than to allow that in the public eye as LP said.

Tasers have far less effect on dogs then they do humans, pepper sparay is even less effective.

Just fail to see how hypothetical comparisons involving humans can be compared with this event. I mean really, anyone that would equate shooting a dog to shooting a human is just...frickin':screwy:

Im sorry but anyone who does not value the life of a dog more than the career of a cop who obiviously does not know what they are doing makes me wonder as well...

That's enough. We've been going circles on this debate and it's getting quite repetitive and inappropriate.
