Eh I over filter the crap out of my tanks as a reflex because my dempsy was such a messy bugger (so are electric blue crays by the way) So the 125g has a 1200 gallon per hour turn over rate that will go to 1600 when I add my elliots and get rid of extra male electric blue acara. Also the fluval 406 on the 125g is all bio media after the first chamber.
Still debateing if the sponge filter rated to run a 90 gallon will be coming with as well.....
edit: Also have pothos on my tanks and lotsa plants to keep nitrates low those plants get regular ferts and 12 hours + of light to make sure they can utilize those nitrates.

Thats an awesome arsenal and with all that bio you'll probably never have an ammonia issue...but none of that will removed nitrates and all that other crap that accumulates.
I was on auto pilot for a while too. The stock wasnt changing much. But with adding a few more polys and my older ones putting on some size i stated testing a little more frequently and found that i was hitting 60 to 80 ppm and had to adjust my wc schedule.
Was curious on what theses guys will do biowise when they hit the monster sizes so i can keep my maintenence routine on the lighter side
That is why the 70% water changes to get rid of nitrates.
I do not fault you for being cautious you got fish that cost more than my biggest aquarium (my 125g was grabbed at an auction for $100) never mind it was manufactured in 1983 and has its original silicone and slightly blue tinted 1/4 thick tempered glass.
We all gotta do what makes us comfortable with the safety of our charges. With most of my stock(except gold dust) the monetary loss is nothing just an attachment loss cus I grow everything out from a baby.

Hahah its not really the cost. To me this is gonna be the one big thing i bought myself since having kids and everything about this tank is geared towards ease of maintenance from the sump set up to the height of the stand even how i do my wc's because of my back/hip. Been there done that with the high maint set ups lol
Plus when one of our fish dies its kind of a "to do" in my house.... took me like a week to tell my son our del died lol
I got a few months to a year then I can do something similar and get myself a tank. without the auction pick up I would be in my 75g (it was free) and a 55g and tons of tiny tanks (sold all the little ones now).
Just paid off the car gotta crush cards and a personal loan with the saved payments then I can get a toy or build one. I would like an 84"x36"x16 or 18"..... will hafto be custom made tho

Idk man, when I kept cichla I had 8-9 large fish in a 300g and never had nitrate issues I was usually around 20-40%. I did one 75% wc a week and if I had some extra time I would do two. But I didn't feed heavy, 2-3 times a week. IME they have a similar bioload, it just depends on how much you feed and change water. You wanna talk about heavy bioload, try rays they put out a heavy load.
