Poly bio load

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I totally agree with you guys. The past 5ish months they were only being fed once maybe twice a week. Just trying to beef him up with extra food and a large amount of wc's

I realized that feeding large fish everyday was unnecessary so I feed the Polys and Cichlid the same day by feeding pellet and flake skip a day feed Tilapia and Freeze-dried Krill. Water parameters better managed for me especially with my schedule.

Was curious on what theses guys will do biowise when they hit the monster sizes so i can keep my maintenence routine on the lighter side

Same goal for me. Having a lighter stock so that I can have an easier maintenance routine. I do three water changes a week but that's because I like the tank clean looking, not because I feel like its necessary.

So the tank is 300 gallons with three FX6's.

As to stock... this is my stock with approximate sizes.

Pearsei 14"
Snook 11"
Het 7"

Endli. 18"
Koliba. 16"
Faranah. 15"
Ansorgii. 15"
Weeksii. 13.5"
Teugelsi. 12"

I want to rehome the teugelsi and will likely not replace it. If I found a PBB I would probably swap it out for the Koliba. I really just want 5 polys... but want them to be at least 20"+ when its all said and done.

I feed the cichlids once daily with food measured out so they get the same amount everyday. The polys are fed tilapia every two to three days.

Thats about it for my routine. I am worse than Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 with my last water test.... more than 4 months for me

I dont feel its necessary to check especially when nothing is happening in the tank, aslong as i do my routine WC and all the fish looks healthy.

Im on the geek side of this lol but dmd tank is 120 more gallons and for the most part the amount of fish hasnt greatly changed plus 3 fx6's is allot of bio. 4 months ago your polys werent as big as they are now and the sd's are eating machines...not saying this going on in your tank just an example but nitrate is only a small part of the problem, if bio isnt up to snuff ammonia is much worse on fish. I know polys are tough fish but they arent bullet proof. Only way you would know is by testing. Atleast thats what i do when growing out fish and or overstocked

True

Happiest day of my life is when someone actually paid me to take my silver dollars off my hands! I had 7 red hooks in my 210g and the amount of maintenance to keep that tank clean was insane.
Lol i couldnt find anyone to pay me and they were metynis fasciatus. I gave them to an lfs for a small credit

Actually my sd are not that bad, they actually help me clean the tank by eating left overs.

Then poop out those left overs
