Great! Someone with experiense! How did you have your breeding pair? Alone or with others? I have tested to have them alone, but they didn't like it. Did you have any anti-fungel in the water?
I kept my pair alone in a DIY 100 gallon tank. The tank was bare except for the small sized gravel and a large PVC pipe for them to hide in.My pair would launch them selves out of the water while spawning.I had to put a heavy weight on the tanks lid to keep them off the floor.I did not use any anti fungel.I would siphon the fry out of their parents tank after they hatched.....BTW CONGRADULATIONS!!!

Breeding polypterus is no small feat. Don't you think you could test your water for us so we know just exactly why your pairs keep spawning?

My pair always spawned after a large water change,in my case that seemed to be the trigger.

I have bred albino short body senegal x long finned albino senegal.I did not know they spawned until i saw many fry.I put 30 in a 10 gallon tank.they were cannibalistic until about 1 inch and i only managed to keep 5 alive. The five baby's i have are all 4-5 inches now.Parents are 4-5 years old.

so i would watch them or they might eat each other

This is awesome!

You should write out a manual on how you do this, I can tell everyone here is very interested, as am I.

It would be SUPER COOL if you wrote out something for the Polypterus section on your tank specs, water quality, and what you do with the eggs.

Haha, just want to throw in I totally hate the OP! In a friendly way.... Getting these guys to breed without even worrying about parameters and whatnot? Haha

How big of tank do you need to get them to breed and is it easy to tell the male and female apart. We have one it is about 14 or so inches long how big are yours,

Yes it is easy to tell them apart. The male analfin is short and wide, the females is long and slim...

See the link above for more detalies on the tank and sizes...

That link was a big help you figure that the male needs more tank mates so he doesnt stress out one lone female. Do you think a long tank would be better than a shorter deep tank or would that matter.
