I've always been curious to know if anyone has kept these long term in freshwater and have them thrive? Or do they at some point need some level of salt?

Nice tank... how many of them you got in there? it looks like you got 3 or 4?

^ Sweet... what are you feeding these guys, since i saw a youtube video where a guy got his eating Hikari Carni Sticks?

Also, sorry bout all the questions, but just can never seem to find much solid info on these guys from first hand keepers...

Initially they would only eat tilapia and market prawns. Since they ate shrimp, I bought FD krill. They immediately went to the surface to gobble them up. Then I mixed in hikari food sticks and cichlid gold+, they eat it all up. Occasional red wigglers. They are really cool fish, I love how they come to the surface to eat and slither around my driftwood. Got mine from Wes at 10"-12." They have gotten longer, and a little thicker. Apparently, they are worth a lot of money as they are very expensive to import at very large sizes. Just trying to spark some interest in this species though this isn't my thread. I always wanted a moray but never went saltwater.

Great info and thats cool to know... Maybe i'll go hunting for one myself one day...

Clown loaches x20, some peaceful cichlids, Flagtail, couple of plecos, blue Botia loach, yo yo loach, archerfish. All the overcrowding of the bottom dwellers esp the crazy loaches caused the morays to hide a lot for the first 5 months but once they started routinely eating from the surface they stopped hiding all the time. They definitely can aggressively fight their way to floating food with the loaches, gorge themselves for 2-3 minutes. Sometimes they even snatch krill out of the mouth of the loaches. I feed 5 days a week, though they would eat everyday.
