Pond/tank build 15 feet by 3 feet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I assume you put a wall in the middle to essentially make it 2 tanks, so that you can separate breeders? Maybe remove the males to the other side so the females can get some rest?

Yep, one side for males and the other for females. Some of the bigger breeders do this. They move a female to the male side then wait for her to get knocked up then move her back to the female side. We will see how this technique works

Nice progress Mike, what kind of lighting you going to use?

I am gonna use 3 foot flourescent with a 15K bulb and with blue led moon lights.

very nice, do you use screws or nails on those 2x4? and if you use screws, do you predrill?

I used galvanized spiral nails to put the treated bottom part together then used treated deck screws to put the rest together. The make them predrilling

Nice looking tank. Did you do anything to the seams in the tank before painting it?

I put two layers of fiber glass matting in the seams along with 4 coats of resin. I used 2 coats of resin on the flat sides then coated all of it with 2 heavy coats of sweetwater epoxy

Did you have to sand the resin in between coats? What did you use to apply the resin?

I used a 3" chip brush which is a cheap $1.30 paint brush to put resin and epoxy in seams and foam rollers to put on the flat sides. I did not sand between resin but did sand between resin and epoxy. When you apply the resin you have to be fast as it hardens in around 10-15 minutes. I mixed 16-32 oz at a time depending on what part I was working on. The hardest part is laying the fiber glass matting in the seams. I cut it into 3 inch wide strips but getting it to lay flat when your gloves are sticky was fun especially when time was not on my side
