  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some more recent pics. Everything is painted and curing. I put my son Jayden in the the tank with his stuffed stingray. He is 15 months and the stingray is 16" diameter. The lighting was just temporary to get pic.

Interesting build. Are you going to have a top to help trap the heat during the winter months? Also it looks like one side of the tank can double as a play pen.

Your tank is looking sweet. I have another question for you. How did you lay the fiberglass into the corners? I am working on my tank and trying to get the fiberglass to lay into the corners and it continues to fold over a little. Any suggestions?

looking GREAT mike!! are you using glass or acrylic for the windows?

I am using 1/2 inch acrylic that will be siliconed in along with stainless steel screws

I used a 3" brush and painted the resin into the seam quickly laid the matting down and then painted on top of the matting with resin before it sets up. That is where speed is a factor.

That is what I ended up doing today as well. What did you fill the screw heads in with?

Did it work out for you? I started off using Bondo to fill in the screw heads and imperfections in the plywood but quickly switch to elmer's wood putty. The bondo did not have a long enough work time and it was a pain to sand. The best advice I can give is to buy good 3/4 plywood. I bought the standard sheeting but wished I would of bought the UVX from lowes which was $5 more a sheet but had one side finished so it was smooth. I had to fill a lot of knot holes and grooves which equaled lots of sanding.

Yes I have lids to go on it, will post more pics once they are installed.

It worked out well. I used bondo to fill the screw holes as well. I did end up using the cabinet grade plywood so the only patching is the screw holes. How many layers of mat did you use in the corners? Did you sand in between coats of epoxy resin?
