With the way I'm going to insulate this, the timber pond wouldn't work very well. The cost would end up being close the the same anyway.
i could insulate but im not fighting mother nature :grinno:
so are you thinking this will be outside in the snow and water be 80 degrees?lol
anyone else up there doing it with success?

I've also heard that (from people selling "pondguard/pondshield"). I've never seen proof of it being bad, but I have seen others use it successfully. I have friends who use it with rays and other fish, and I find it hard to believe that firestone would change production for something that's just EPDM rubber.

A new thought. Could I use 2X6" Lumber rather than the 4x4? I wouldn't have the halving joints but I could overlay the 2x6s at the corners. They're cheaper and I'm thinking it'd be stronger.

Thoughts?

i was about to ask you why you were gonna use 4x4's. they are a waste imo. 2x6's would be fine. and another thing with the 4 bys, you cant get them in Spf, only treated. unless you can get them at a mill, then they will still be twisted. and when are you starting this? i have a few days off coming up.

I have to collect the material, but I'm starting really soon (I hope). I'd like to get the frame done by jan. and then skin it in feb. and then filter it with a small portion of my tax check.

I've already started gutting the room where it will be. I have to remove a desk (that's built like a tank---into the room) and get the carpet out of there and I'll be ready.
