Well I hope lionfish don't get hunted out cause it would suck prices on them would go up even more...

:screwy:

Who cares if the price of this species of lionfish goes up because they're all killed off in waters where they are an invasive species and are decimating native species? It's better to eliminate these fish and save the native fish (many of which are probably significant in the aquarium trade) than to worry about the prices of a nonnative invasive species going up...

ya or it will just go the route of the snakeheads. can't have them since they can live here and harm our systems. gotta love the government.

Hopefully, that's not the case. The snakeheads were dumped by irresponsible aquarium owners; these lionfish ended up here as a result of a hurricane smashing someone's aquarium and thereby introducing them into the Atlantic.

Snake heads would a got here some time anyways.

Really? Neither fish would end up here naturally for many, many years (if ever); humans would have to introduce them here for them to get here any time soon.

The government will only restrict something like this in order to preserve the ecosystem, and the cost to monitor for illegal possession of these fish is much higher than either the revenue accumulated from fines or the revenue that could be generated from the sales of the fish.

An amazing fish, but they have no place in the Atlantic. They can be caught as far north as New York now, and perhaps even in Rhode Island. It's probably impossible to remove them all at this point in time, but maybe they can be held in check.

the oceans are conected, lionfish are moving into the cooler waters of the east coast. what to say that some couldn't swim on over.

your just not following it. it doesn't matter how much it costs the government to do something as long as someone else pays them some money in the end. thats how they work.

Indeed, they could potentially spread from where they naturally occur (South Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea), but there are certain factors (geological, predatory, etc.) that prevent them from doing so easily and quickly as they have in the Atlantic Ocean.

The federal government definitely does love getting money from people, but they will not run an operation that causes a deficit in order to get less money that what is wasted, especially in a case such as this.

Ive got a saltwater snake head in the works, im about to dump him in every ocean known to man! hahahha just messin

i think lion fish are cool, but i understand that they are killing of native speices and need to be delt with
still sad

i know this, but thats besides the point

if the government wont run an operation that causes a deficit in order to get less money then what is wasted please explain these bad operations that wasted money for nothing. ex. the country's trillions in deficit, the cash for clunkers program, all the heath care plans... i could go on all night. mean while all the presidents like obama for example are "spending the holidays overseas" "on vacation in HI" Hillary is looking at poor kids in africa then goes to enjoy a 5 star hotel and 5 course meal. do the math
