I believe that some of that may be attributed to PETA and other radical organizations putting pressure on the government through lobbyists and such.
It's more likely right wing propaganda, to get non millionares and fundies to vote Republican. PETA is laughed at by all but silly vegans, and you guys. Right wing fundraising outfits laugh loudest of all as they shamelessly exploit your fears for donations. Same goes for Greenpeace. Most conservation groups are on your/our side as far as hunting and fishing are concerned.
And this tired socialist wants to eat some lionfish on his plate.

As a spearfisher, I would love to get back down to florida and give some of these guys the steel.

Dont know how soon that will happen though, so I am letting my Florida friends hold down the alamo for now.

www.saltwaterfish.com has done something that I thought was a good idea from the very start, and until yesterday was unaware that it was being done by anyone.

Collection of atlantic lionfish for distribution. I dont think they have any pterois volitans that arent from the atlantic. Pretty cool.

Hmm... Maybe a temporary ban on the importation of this specific species of lionfish from other locales other than the Atlantic Ocean would help to increase their harvest?

I think the USA shouldnt allow importation of lions from anywhere but the atlantic. I thought it would make the price rise, but www.saltwaterfish.com 's are fairly reasonably priced I feel.

Besides...who could say no to an atlantic lion when they have color morphs like this:

All I can say is WOW! Sick picture!

I don't really have interest in getting a lionfish, but if it looked like that I would be all in.

Well I hope lionfish don't get hunted out cause it would suck prices on them would go up even more...

I find it funny that such a prominent species is so expensive in the first place, whats next? 50 dollar + oscars??

they will not run an operation that causes a deficit in order to get less money that what is wasted, especially in a case such as this.

That is untill a senator/congresman/woman or their brother/sister in law or son or daughter starts a lion fish harvesting company, then they will get a multi billion dollar contract to "save the oceans" over night.

ya i agree that PETA has a big part in it. as for the radical organizations i also have one. it goes by browning 10 gauge and his cousin browning a-bolt .7mm rem mag medalion. they have radicaly recked some tasty animals days. god gave us thumbs for more then masterbation, clicking off safties is their true calling.

+1 however I like my SOCOM II with the rail system, ACOG and 25rnd mags. 7.62x51mm....why clear rooms when you can shoot through walls @550+ rounds/min? :D Grunts...cant live with them, cant survive with out them :headbang2

oh how often I  at the right vs. left arguement. I have nothing but respect for the man/woman who has a idelogical and or political view that they stand by. However I honestly pitty those who think the US gov has not or will not continue to put on a WWF smackdown show for CSPAN spouting lines that they know their constituancy wants to hear. Then go have beers together, swinging back door deals with each other while we the citizens squabble over what we saw on our respective right/left news networks.:screwy:

Whats wrong with eating the lionfish. They are an invasive species in the Caribbean and Atlantic. They don't have any natural predators in this part of the world . You combine that with the warm waters that they are accustomed to and the florish and outcompete native species. Lionfish are all native to the Indo-Pacific.

Theres nothing wrong with it. We have come to that conclusion, I hope.

Let the politics be over, this site doesnt do politics, and this thread will be bye-bye if we keep it up.

Eating lionfish has little to nothing to do with politics. They are here, they eat gamefish, lets eat them first.

I give the same deal to the invasive carp we have, except those are mainly turned into fertilizer. :D
